Do you need that metal ring on the cone filter?

Hi all,

I have a Stillen intake with a JWT popcharger filter. I realized today that the metal ring on the filter fell off. Do I need that? Without the ring, now it expose a rubber ring on top of the filter. I didn't put the metal ring back on. I figured if I snap it back in, it will probably fall off again.

Also, what filter have you guys been replacing the Stillen intake with? I look through threads and doesn't seem like there's any direct fit aside from the popcharger filter. I am too lazy to wash it or risk over oiling and messing the MAF so I will probably just get another popcharger filter. I currently have about 18k miles on the popcharger filter. It was installed 3+ years ago. How often you guys wash/replace it? Yeah, I don't drive that much.

Thanks...

The popcharger comes stock with that hole in the middle and just a metal ring around the edge for stability. It keeps the filter from bending out of shape and not allowing air to come in.

I see. So maybe I should snap that ring back in. I don't know if it was glue in before cause if it was the glue is all dried by now.

Yeah just make sure its temp rated because the temps could melt regular glue.
