my wife's 04.5 G35X has 70K miles and will start up and occasionally the engine just dies. Sometimes it will do it 2-3 times in a row unless you push on the throttle some to keep it going. There is no engine light on and it otherwise runs great. Any ideas ?

 

Take the car to the dealer!

 

Your throttle body needs to be cleaned. Probably wouldnt hurt to run some cleaner over the MAF sensor why you are in there.

 

OK thanks guys, I run injector cleaner though her car here and there and I've been thinking to do the BG cleaning on the fuel system. Also her car has a pop charger air filter in it, I can't remember if the air filter is cleanable and reusable ????

 

so they can charge me $300 for something I can do for $10 ?

 

The popcharger is able to be washed and re-oiled.

Your throttle body is the big key there though. When mine was dirty the car would start and die right away. Or it would barely start and then idle almost at 500 then sometimes die. Theres a DIY on here on how to clean it just make sure not to smack the butterfly all around or you may have to replace it.

My car is doing this same thing. Just posted a thread about it. I'm about to go crazy.

 

Possible that your crank or cam pos sensor is on its way out.
