New owner - Questions about things I need to fix
Hi, I just bought an '05 G35x sedan. Have some questions about the maintenance/things I need to fix.
1. Radio finisher yellowing - thought the previous owner had just spilled coffee or something on it & it would be an easy clean, but after searching around this forum, it sounds like it's a defect in the adhesive used, and was replaced under warranty by dealerships. I'm sure the warranty is up on this car and will have to DIY. I've seen a thread where someone listed the part numbers, but don't know if that p/n is for the 05.
What is the correct p/n for an 05 or how can I find out? Haven't been able to find a part #s illustrations database website.
Possibilities:
http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/pro...8042-ac703.htm
http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/pro...8042-ac702.htm
http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/pro...8042-ac701.htm
2. This is my first AWD vehicle let alone RWD. Is it safe to do a transmission flush (using the "drain from radiator return line" and "fill at the same time" with the car running method) with 90k miles on it and no previous tranny service history? Anything I should do to the RWD-related parts? Differential fluid, etc...
3. I read in the FAQ that if you have that popping noise in the back when the rear windows are all rolled up that it's something to do with some bolts being too long. It mentioned a TSB. If I told this to the dealer, is it something they would perform free of cost? I'll be searching more on this issue and hopefully it's a DIY thing.
4. Brake pads - would AutoZone pads be sufficient, at least the ceramic high-priced ones? Or is dealership pads the best replacement (if I'm not seeking enhanced performance over dealership pads).
5. Anything else you would do to this car @ 90k? Planning on oil&filter/air filter/plugs/brake fluid flush. I'm still going through a lot of threads & finding out info, but plan on doing a lot of this work tomorrow.
Thanks

Thanks
i dont even see where the yellowing problem is,,,,,
about maint items
I'm @ 82K and had no idea what the guy befome me did,,, probably nothing but oil changes so i did:
ATF
REAR DIFF
ENGINE OIL CHANGE (doh)
brake fluid
power steer fluid
coolant
air filter (WAS VERY BAD)
CABIN FILTER
plugs
new tires and alignment after that
I had my original brake pads on 4 wheels replaced at the dealer in April 09 at 85k miles.
They cut all the rotors. No problems with brakes since. Now at 137k miles
Telcoman

My belts were replaced when the plugs were replaced at 106.7k miles along with a coolant flush and a throttle body cleaning.

cmex - How about now? Darkened the image and upped the contrast. It's the area on the aluminum finish right below the 1-6 buttons.

Telcoman, thanks for the info, definitely something to keep in mind. I'll also add coolant flush to the list too.
Thanks for pointing out the drive belts, JaE35 - when I was inspecting the car before buying, I noticed they were a little squeally, had forgotten all about them.
So for the most part the stuff I need to do is what you'd generally do on most cars...this car has no special needs at 90-100k miles? I'm glad the VQ doesn't have a timing belt.

I had all the finisher pieces replaced by Infiniti under bumper to bumper. One piece on top of the of pop out piece started to yellow again. I took metal polish and put it on steel wool #0000. Went back and forth until it started to go away. Then I used a metal polish on a rag and it was essentially gone. This procedure was never done the face of any of the finishers so I am not sure how well that would go. I will see if I can find my invoice from Infiniti and post up the part numbers for my 06.

Went to the dealership and got nowhere. Parts guy never heard of the yellowing problem. He pulled up the part and said it's like $180 dollars. Wouldn't tell me the part number. But the program he used was called "Fast"...I've seen that program on the net before, will see if I can find it for the g35.
Also, I got an inspection at the dealership and was sure they would try to sell me some brakes as mine are squealing pretty badly, especially driving a low speed with no braking. They said my pads had 50% of life left and the rotors were fine. I had known about the poor brake life from 2003-2004 models, but now I find out the 2005 has problems too. Just one thing after another....guess I'll just go aftermarket for brakes.
