Those finishers occasionally come up for sale in the marketplace. The dealer tends to be expensive.

sloppymax, no rush. Just reminding you in case you forgot.

acr, I've seen some old threads with people selling "finishers", but the thing is I think those are the finisher+circuit board due to the problems with the radio. I was under the impression this is just a plastic panel that you can swap on.

Update 1: Actually, sloppymax I think you've pointed me in the right direction. I had came upon this thread: Yellowing tirm on 06 sedan, but had initially ignored it since it was an '06 and I have an '05. But since you say that 05/06 should be the same part, I think I have the info I need:

Based on post #35,:

REPLACED RADIO FINISHER"

PARTS

FINISHER-RADIO 28042-AC703
LID ASSY-CLUSTER 68260-AC710
These were the p/n's I had to go off of, but since I didn't know if 05 and 06 were the same, I thought there would be some variation in them.

28042-AC703 is $18.55 (on dealerdirectparts.com)
68260-AC710 is $154, but I don't think I need it since I think this is the ashtray/cigarette lighter lid, which is not discolored on my car.

Since the first one is only 20 bucks, I'll just order it & if it works, good. Otherwise, the search continues.

Update 2
I think I found the info I needed about the rear window creaking/popping when windows-all-the-way up here: DIY: 03-05 Sedan Rear Door Rattle/Creak TSB Repair and Panel Removal. p/n of the bolts are 01125-03241 and you need 2 per side.

The radio finisher matches what you have listed but for the lid assy-cluster, mine says 68260-AC700 so maybe they updated the part since I had mine replaced. My advisor backed up what some stated that it was the adhesive coming through over time when it was hot and discoloring the trim.

Cool, glad the p/n's match - but about the p/n diff of the lid-assy: how long ago did you get yours replaced? The post I quoted was from Feb of 2010 so assuming his replacement was maybe early 2010, late 2009.

The finisher piece should be here by the weekend, I'll update on how it goes.

Mine was done June 2009. Since he stated it was heat related, I try to put up the windshield deflector up anytime its in the sun and my windows are tinted but time will tell. If it does it again, I know I can remove it and use the steel wool method. If it looks bad then from what you showed, the replacement is pretty inexpensive.

Thanks for updating Mustang5L5...but wow, a lifetime of about a year? There definitely must be some trigger. When manufacturers design a car, I would have thought that they did some testing at extreme temperatures for long periods of time.

I don't wanna go as far as to say a defective radio causes the yellowing, but who knows. Have either of you experienced problems with your radios or having to need a jump start/replace battery? I'm gonna see if I can take the finisher off, play the radio for a while & see if the area under where the finisher was yellowed is unusually hotter than the rest of the unit.

And no signs of yellowing again yet?

...not so fast....

The part came in today....but it is not the correct part. The part which I was assuming to be the aluminum finish ("FINISHER-RADIO 28042-AC703") which was 20 bucks is actually the small dark plastic piece that the radio display shines through:

"LID ASSY-CLUSTER 68260-AC710" must be the part we need...and that's 150 bucks.

The box it came in was pretty large, but once I opened it, this small flimsy piece fell out

Damn, that's beat! I guess I'll be trying the 0000 steel wool trick and some aluminum polish on mine, since they're no way I'm coughing up $150 for new trim. That $150 is most of the way towards a plenum spacer.

No, no radio or battery issues here. The yellowing is only just starting on the very edge. Not as bad as when I replaced it...but I can def tell it's coming back. The finisher is a little warm after a drive. I bet the discoloration is simply heat related from the center console.

Guess I'll just live with it because I'm not spending $150 on another one. My shift **** is showing it's age too. I guess the oils on my skim are doing a number on it because the finish is deteriorating badly.
