Re: Blue Tooth

I am curious, since you have a bluetooth phone, isn't it already hands free and wire free? I personally don't think there is a need to spend money for a car kit on a bluetooth phone. I have a Motorola v600 and will buy a kit when the damn prices come down on the headsets. I paid only $75 for the phone, so I figured why pay $120 for the headset. Am I missing something?

Re: Blue Tooth

Bluetooth is a radio frequency standard or protocol.
You still need hardware (headset or speaker/car kit) to be able to do hands free communication.

Example: If you want to talk in your car while driving and dont want to deal with plugging in the headset to your phone, this is where the Bluetooth headset or car kit comes in. It allows you to use the headset/car kit with out the need for wires to connect back to the phone. So both the phone and the device need to be Bluetooth capatible. Does that make sense?

I think the Acura TL comes with a Bluetooth card integrated into the speaker system. You probably just have to tune the radio to a certain channel (not sure, just guessing)

I did a search and found this site with alot of Bluetooth accessories.

I hope I made some sense

Re: Blue Tooth

Why go to the hassle of creating a speakerphone through your car's system when you can get a handsfree speakerphone directly in the cellphone; e.g., my Nextel i730.

Re: Blue Tooth

Yeah, I have the same feature with my Motorola V505 (built in speaker phone)

The hands free is really for people that just want to walk around talking to the air without having to have to have the phone next to them.

Basically, theres options for everyone.

Re: Blue Tooth

Chicago, I know what you're talking about. My friend has the TL and a bluetooth. It's got to be one of the coolest tech toys on a car I have ever seen next to the nav. When he gets in the car, the cell phone never leaves his pocket. The car senses the phone and takes over the controls of the phone. So, when he gets a call he hits a button on the steering wheel and the phone now works over the speakers. Better yet, the contacts on his phone upload automatically to the car's trip computer so he can thumb through the contacts. Also, when he finds a location on the nav it has a phone number on it he just clicks call and it makes the call through the nav.

Sorry to go on about it, it's cool as hell. The bluetooth and touch screen nav are the only things that the new TL has on the G. I hope that Infiniti gets that fixed.

Re: Blue Tooth

my brother has a TL so I can tell you firsthand how useful it is

if you have your phone inside your front pocket or purse, you gotta dig it out before you decide to answer or not, with the TL, you can view a screen in the gauge cluster that'll show who's calling

if you decide to pick up the phone and you know it's gonna be a long conversation, you now have to plug in your headphone/mic into the phone, with the TL, you hit a button on the steering wheel and it picks up right away

downside: you gotta answer all calls with "hey, I got you on speakerphone" because everyone in the car can hear your conversation

A cell phone's built-in speakerphone might not work well in a car. It depends on how much noise there is inside the car and the placement of the phone. Plus, on cheaper phones, the speakerphone might only be half-duplex (you can't talk while you listen and vice versa). I had a Nokia 6200 (with full-duplex speakerphone) which did not work well in any car. I had to hold the phone at steering-wheel height for it to work. That's not handsfree.

A Bluetooth car kit allows you get in your car and have instant hands-free capability without having to plug anything into your phone (or dropping your phone into a cradle). When you receive a call, just push a button on the kit's control module to answer (or to end the call when you're done). The module usually attaches to the steering wheel or another convenient location. Some Bluetooth kits can also be connected to the car's stereo to route all audio through the car's speakers and to mute the radio when a call is made/received.

It get's really cool when the car has Bluetooth capability built-in (like the new TL). With Bluetooth built-in, you can use voice commands to dial and answer. Of course, you can use voice dialing with an add-on kit if your phone supports it.

I now have a Motorola V551 which has Bluetooth. It works great with my Bluetooth-enabled Dell laptop. I can transfer pictures and other data between my phone and laptop all without wires. Bluetooth is a great wire-replacement technology that's finally catching on.

It also makes u look stupid when you are using the TL BT handfree thing. People would think that you are talking to yourself or something...

But I really want one for in my G35

I've often wondered how it would look to others when you use the voice-activated nav and audio controls in the new TL too. I guess that wouldn't be as bad since the commands are short. It probably would look weird to someone sitting next to you at a stoplight.
