Blinking Airbag Light (after recall)

2005 g35x 85,000 miles.

First off, nothing but problems since day one.

Second, I had the air bag recall done about 9 months ago. This seemed to fix the solid airbag light issue.

This morning I started up my car and whamo! blinking airbag light. What do I do? Is resetting worth it? It seems foolish if there actually is a problem.

This is no longer under warranty, correct?
There is no further recalls, correct?
Should I just trade in my car for something that has reliability that goes beyond its sexy drivetrain?

The stealship (one of two by me) said when i had it in for warranty work that it had an old error code for a malfunctioning squib cable and it would cost me $2500 -$3000 to get this replaced. /sigh so freakin dirty i hope they burn in hell

/advise

Which airbag light? I just brought mine in for the recall, the dash airbag light was on. I learned that the recall is the passenger side and the passenger air bag light will be showing a problem. If it is just the light in the instrument cluster then it is the drivers side. Luckily mine was covered under warranty.

Ill give it a try. No reason why the light came on. No accident (ever) and I never messed with the wiring.

Hey follow up question: If I reset the light drive it for a few weeks and it doesnt come back on. Is there anything wrong from a liability standpoint on trading it in? Like how am I to know it isn't just a fluke the light came on?

I reset the light on thursday. It didn't post any error codes after the procedure. It was fine for about 4 hours of driving, but came on this morning while driving. I reset it again. Went off with no issue.

The only thing i can say is it seemed to come on at the same point of driving where i had to strech out all akward so i could get into my front pocket of my pants. I tend to by habbit put downward pressure on the wheel and backward pressure on the seat. I'm wondering if maybe i have a slightly loose connection which I'm momentarily disconnecting when I make that movement. I also tend to put pressure on my wheel when getting out of the car.

Anyone have an ideas? It didnt come back for some time after being reset and didn't do the whole blinking thing where it says something is wrong. Should I worry about it? Any tests I can do? Anything that I can easily look at?

**wheel referring to steering wheel

Diagnosed the problem further. The light resets without returning, but I can trigger it to come on at whim by applying downward or sideways pressure to the steering wheel in excess of 50lbs. Makes me believe the spiral cable is the cause, but is not an issue under normal driving conditions. It is either loose or cracked (but still harnessing a signal).

Do I a) get the cable fixed?
b) get a subaru?

that largely depends what you consider a problem.

Compression rods (obviously) -fixed
Power window motor -fixed
Door bolts -fixed
Rattling all over -fixed other than rear deck
Auto Window likes to go down 4 inches after it reaches the top
The under seat harness for the seat belt sensor -fixed
Rear deck rattles (a lot)

Thats not the full list, but what I recall off the top of my head. Lots of other crazy things have happened that I somehow fixed. Hood decided it hated itself and the joint seized up.

For instance- car used to have a lot of rough starts (like 1 in 3) where either the timing was off or not all the pistons would fire (at 40k).

something to consider is that sometimes air bag repairs can be multi step. i know some will not agree but on a flow chart of repairs this could be the 1st step of 3.

I have read that plenty and quite frankly that is my biggest fear. I would drop 800-1000 on my car to fix it, if it fixed it, but to say there is no guaranty that the issue will be resolved...not to mention airbags pretty much win the award for the most expensive repairs on a vehicle...and then did the tech working on my car install it correct? I mean they are going to crash your car to find out and then hit the rewind button.

The issue is not an issue at the moment. The problem only arises when a considerable amount of pressure is applied to the steering wheel in an abnormal direction. The sad part is that I cant get a car to even come close to replacing mine for ~18,000 with less than 35,000 miles on it. Has anyone driven the 08+ honda accords with the 4 banger...oh god they are terribly slow...I mean it has to be way slower than a VW sciorocco diesel.

I just had mine come on and the recall was fixed a few days ago.. I took it back in and it's a faulty driver side airbag module in the steering wheel..

They quoted me $880 to fix it, good thing i have an extended warranty on mine.

Not sure how often these go out, but that may be something to keep in mind.
