lokkii another great place to look is the local Nissan/Infiniti dealerships. I found 3 HR y pipes at Infiniti here and paid $60 for all 3!!

I had a shop weld a straight pipe in place of the stock muffler. It lasted 1 day before I had them put a 23 inch resonator there. Very raspy and a lot of drone.

I guess it depends on the exhaust you have. I have an HR Y pipe and a megan mufler with no silencers and some pretty big tips, it's not raspy just deep as all hell

Is the coupe midpipe a direct bolt on to the sedan? does it matter if the sedan is a 35X or not?

Is the coupe Y pipe required?

My 35x resonator has a hole in it and sounds like ***.

yes as long as its the g35 coupe and not the 350z midpipe then u will be set. u may get some rattles from the midpipe, u will just need to remove the bracket to get rid of the rattle if it happens to you.

^+1. It's a direct bolt on.
There is a heat shroud that goes between the driveshaft and midpipe, you may have to lightly bend that upwards (with a hammer) so that it doesn't rattle on the midpipe.
Just be careful you don't bend it so far that it hits the driveshaft, that sounds really bad like your transmission is toast believe me, I would know

i didnt need to mess with the heat shield. grant took out a hook that goes below the midpipe to remove the rattle, that piece of metal was there just incase the midpipe would fall it would not hit the floor.

^Gotcha.

The 03/04 and 05/06 exhaust shielding is a bit different.

I also have a hole in my resonator.

Seems that there are two reasonable options for midpipe replacement:

1) g35 coupe (what years would bolt on to an 04 sedan?)
2) g35 sedan (been told that 05/06 sounds better and is lighter)

Do any of you have an opinion?

Replacing the current resonator seems like the worst thing to do at the moment due to weight and cost. The mechanic offered a straight pipe (resonator delete i suppose its called) but I've seen some videos on youtube and it sounds terrible.

What about a Magnaflow resonator as a replacement?

So torn!

The resonator is in the middle of the midpipe.

If you have a hold in your resonator, just get a coupe midpipe. You upgrade the exhaust and replace the problem part all at the same time.
I wouldn't recommend a straight pipe.
05/06 midpipe is another option, the resonator is about half the size of the 03/04, and a bit better sound, but not quite as much improvement in sound and lightweight as the coupe's.
You could try getting a Magnaflow welded in, if your exhaust shop can do a good enough job for cheap enough. If I had to guess, the sound would probably be similar to the coupe middy.
