Stereo Trim is yellowing

I know its very common for the dash above the ash tray to yellow. My question is this, if I took it to get warratied and ask them to replace it with a DD trim instead, would they do it? Or just replace it with what came on the car?

You'd be lucky to get them to replace it at all. It depends 100% on your individual dealer. Mine wouldn't even acknowledge that it was turning yellow. Some on here have had better luck.

If they did decide to replace it, I don't see them putting in anything other than the original piece.

Do you smoke? if so, it will not be covered? I doubt they'll replace it with a JDM DD as it costs more.

Smoking has nothing to do with it, but some dealers use it as an excuse to not cover it. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life and as far as I can tell the previous owner never smoked in the car either.

I dont smoke nor did the previous owner. I would have guessed it would cost more, and I would be willing to pay out of pocket for the difference as long as its not some ridiculous difference.

how is it normal for it to turn yellow.... something has to be affecting it, and i doubt the dealership is responsible for stuff like that

I searched before I created the thread, and I found a few threads where people are having tye same problem. I never said it was normal, I said it was common, meaning its a common problem to G owners. The reason for the yellowing has something to do with the adhesive/glue. I don't use the ashtray nor do I smoke, so it should be replaced by warranty as a manufacturer defect. I even removed the lighter from the ashtray to see if it would help, but its still turning yellow.

It's happening on mine as well, no big deal to me though, I'm going to be swapping it out for a JDM DD eventually anyway. It is weird though, maybe a finish/coating on the aluminum trim is oxidizing after relentless exposure to the sun/heat/UV? My best guess... don't quote me on it though, I don't know why there would be a coating on the aluminum, I just know pure aluminum would never yellow like that, even with sun exposure.
