Am I crazy to do this? 2008 G35 Sedan for 2012 Mustang V6
#17
Well, what exactly are you referring to? I assume you were talking about short shift throws with a tighter feel?
If so, a common Mustang mod is to change the shifter since factory shifters have always been mor for comfort, than performance. There are many shifters to choose from. Its been the first mod I've done to any mustang I've bought. In fact, when I test drove a new 6MT 2005 coupe i almost bought, one pf my complaints was the shifter was too rubbery. I looked into aftermarket shifters for the g35 and was surprised it's not a common mod.
Basically...you'd replace this in the Mustang
This is a Steeda Tri-ax...one of the better performance shifters for the mustang on the market. I have one in my mustang.

Apples and oranges
Auto / manual
Sedan / coupe
Luxury / not nearly so
Grand Tourer / Muscle car (even w/ a v6 it goes)
Japanese reliability / Inexpensive to fix
Each is driven differently with a different mind set. I am luckly enough to have both a G and a HiPo Mustang, and I would not give up either.
If you go for the Stang, I have yet to hear a owner of the new v6 who was unhappy. Of course bigger is always better.

it comes down to a simple question:
do you want to chicks or d!cks?
if you want the first stick with the G
if you want the later get the mustang
i keed, personally i would never because of the fact that i drive an Infiniti and going down to a Ford mustang even if its a V8 (to me) is considered a downgrade.
i choose class over some pedal mashing power.

Intake, exhaust, gears, tune, and slicks and the V6 Stang is going low 13s, possibly 12.9s. G35s, DEs or HRs aren't capable of that for so little work. I have big respect for the new V6 Stang. With the GT suspension package and sticky tires, the V6 will tear stuff up on the auto-x. I'd drive it.

I dont think anyone is slamming the reliability of the v6. Ive owned 5 mustangs and they have been the most reliable, easiest and CHEAP to maintain vehicles i've owned. I'd have no issue buying another one if I chose to go that route.
I think the main arguments here are buying a v6 mustang in general.
But it's all up to the OP. He should drive it, and decide for himself if he likes the car regardless of what opinions others have. He's the one making the payments, so it's his call.
Would I sell a G35 for a Mustang. Probably not, but then again I already own a Mustang. To me, its a downgrade. HOWEVER, going from a 2003 car to a 2012 car is never a downgrade. Yes, I know I just contradicted myself, but NEWER cars are always better. I absolutely LOVE the sync system ford has. It's a great peice of technology. My sisters Focus has it and after a day of driving it, I feel my non-touchscreen navigation in my g35 is just so outdated. Honestly, the technology in a lot of new cars is superior to our g35s these days, so I don't think a new car is a downgrade at all. The new v6 mustang makes good power, gets 30mpg, has optional Hids, heated seats, navi/sync system. If the OP chooses to buy it...I'm sure he will like it just fine.
Rumor has it a 4-banger twin turbo ecoboost version is in the works.

The new Mustang already comes with short shift throws. You can compare it to the smoothness of lets say a 350z but no way is it in the league of a tsx / s2000.
