Am I crazy to do this? 2008 G35 Sedan for 2012 Mustang V6

I've had the G for a little over a year and I really miss having a manual transmission. I'm thinking of trading in my 2008 G35 sedan w/35,000 miles journey base model in excellent condition for a 2012 Mustang v6 w/the performance package. I'll end up paying $3250 out the door for the Mustang after trading in my G35. I test drove the Mustang and it was really fun to drive. I use the manual mode all the time in the G and it just isn't the same. What are your thoughts? Am I crazy to do this?

Eh, the new v6 is no slouch with 305HP. It will run solidly into the 13's with some mods and makes more power stock than the older v8 models.....

But mustang enthusiast themselves still don't respect it. You either get a v8 otherwise you are stuck with the "teenage girls" car stigma with it.

The whole point of a Mustang is a V8 engine.

My brother took delivery of a 2012 GT m/t 3 weeks ago. We took it up to the mountains and it was a blast to drive. The shifter is no Honda but I am pretty surprise that it shifts pretty damn smooth. I wasn't expecting that from a Ford. I wouldn't go for v6 if you getting a mustang. The GT has alot of power. I had no problem skipping shifts and popping into high gears or any gear without any bogging down on the engine. Plenty of torque. Exhaust wise, it seems like they tone down the GT exhaust a bit compare to previous generation. Interior....hmmm that's another story. It's not all that great. I know how you feel about m/t. I missed driving m/t and the missing pedal every time I drive my g35x.

The new Mustangs are pretty amazing cars. BUT I would only consider the V8 if I was in the market.

Plenty of aftermarket shifters that will fix that. It's usually one of the first mods done.

So what exactly do you have to replace to lets say get it to Honda standard? Not just a short shift kit or whatever right? Don't you need to replace the gears, etc?

My roommate has a '11 GT. The new 5.0 Coyote motor is monstrous, stock the thing went 12.9 @ 110, thats exactly what my 03 Cobra went bone stock. Recently he went 12.60 @ 114 with just an intake, tune, exhaust.

Back to the original post. The V6 car runs real good for a base model car. I raced one not too long ago. My 06 G sedan had i/h/lower plenum and spacer(trapped 102 mph with this set up), Mustang had an exhaust from what I could tell. I yanked him top end, but put up a damn good fight. I don't know what your goals would be after buying one, but I'm sure once they put out more go fast parts, that car should be a blast.

In my opinion it will never be a luxury car, nor will it ever be something sought after, but if your looking for a new and sporty driving experience this would be okay. You'll miss the interior and timeless looks, but whats more important?
