my so far eventful lowering of the X
Bought some Z springs from a guy here in the marketplace & they got here yesterday. so me & my buddy dig right in & start going to work. We replace the back two in 30 minutes or less & we're feeling good about our chances at finishing our project before the night ends. (we started at 3 o clock local time.) so we start on the project of the front. things were going fairly smoothly, then my left strut made a queefing noise and starts leaking. Not to bad, but not a good sign. So eventually get the left off and start on the right. As we are going to get the last bolt off located on the bottom of the strut, we realize that Hercules tightened it up last time it was put on. So we eventually end up breaking 1 ratchet, and 2 extensions (craftsmen lifetime warranty equipment) before it's finally broke loose.
now time to compress the springs. the right side one is easy as anything and we are again feeling good about our chance to finish within the next hour or two. (it's 6-7 o clock now). so we start by compressing the left spring now. and the bolt on top of the strut holding it on was again tightened by hercules. we try everything that our minds think of (and we thought of some creative things) and the only thing that came out of it was wearing ourselves out. today i took the strut up to a local shop and they got it off in about 2 minutes with an impact wrench (which neither one of us have)...

alright. the task has been finished. there was even more trouble with the left strut. the bottom bolt would not screw on because the threads were damaged in removal. not 1 place in town had a die set large enough for it either. so be had to file it down ourselves which took about an hour.
