how to remove rust?

Is there a way to remove the rust before I go ahead and sand/paint/buff? or do I just go straight into sand/paint/buff? thanks!

If its just surface rust which might just be it, go straight into sand, sand, primer, paint, then throw a few layers of clear coat. Some people get an angle grinder and go to bare metal but make sure you primer it right away

do what jrunSW20 said do it ASAP before it gets worse..... since its so small you might want to paint it with a paint touch up pen i think online or at a auto parts store you can buy the paint touch up pens

Hello. Here is one on amazon:
Amazon Amazon

It is a pen with fiberglass bristles so you can remove the rust before applying primer, touch-up paint and clear coat.

Here is one with finer bristles:

You can sand it like the other members recommended, but since you have such a small area, the fiberglass brush might work better for you.

Hope this helps.

SedanFTW, update the thread once you've tried this out?

I have an identical rust dot on my G...same spot too, and am curious if this would work for it. Never heard of a fiberglass pen till this post.

some updates, bought a fiberglass pen from amazon for about 3-4 bucks. works really well, better than sand paper imo since you can be more pinpoint the area more precisely. this is how it looks after.

Hey SEDANFTW, what did you do after you got the rust out? i just ordered a fibrebrush myself, my car has smaller rust spots. Im planning on using the touch up pen from the dealership afterwards. Was hoping you could update me on how your paint is now

after removing the rust, it was pretty much bare metal so I had to add a layer of primer then paint/clear after.
