Brake noise?

I am getting a high frequency noise from what sounds like the rear right side of my 05 X (75K miles). Louder while braking at slow speeds and continues with a lighter noise (whistling, scratchy) even while driving below 30 mph. Can only hear with passenger window down and minimal background noise. Seems to coincide with wheel rotation speed.
Could this be sticking calipers, worn pads, and/or broken e-brake? Pads have about 30K miles on them and rotors & calipers are original (and rusty). braking performance is ok. Fuel economy since noise started a few days ago seems bad.

its going to the dealer this week for service, but want to see first if this diagnosis seems accurate and what to expect regarding repairs.

jack that tire off the ground and spin it by hand, should be able to pinpoint it there.. also you could take the caliper off and check the pads, the wear indicator is supposed to make that sound when your pads get low.

No way to tell without looking. Could be work pads, sticking pins, or other causes.

More than likely, a stuck slide pin has caused the inboard pads to wear to nothing and now the backing plate is starting to touch. Easy for you to fix...as dealer prices will be extreme because they will want to replace the caliper

Pull the wheel off and check the pads, next inspect the rotor. If the rotor is warped, you must replace the rotor when doing the pad. Make sure your caliper pens are greased up so that the pad can move freely.

Apparently, from what I have observed, this a frequent occurrence with our early G's--I have a quiet squeak from my front brakes but with no adverse effects; however, since you are having diminished mileage and MAYBE performance I agree with the above post. Soon I will put Centric pads and rotors all around as this is just a daily driver (rears already done).

Other users have used Hawks HPS and EBC Green Stuff pads with varying results...do a search for those.

Could also be a wheel bearing going bad.

I had a wheel bearing replaced already, sounded more like a whine rather than a squeak--this sound gets louder at higher speeds rather than while braking, which is what the OP is experiencing.
