Need new tranny on G35X :(

It's official now, i'm getting a new tranny on a car with less than 9K miles. Got a call from my wife a couple of days ago saying the car was doing something weird. Got home and drove it right to the dealer, and while driving couldn't get out of 1st gear. Took the dealership 2 days to tell me it needs a new tranny. Unhappy with this whole scenario. Dealership wouldn't even call me back, I had to keep calling every evening for status, but to have this happen on a car thats less than a year old and not even 9k miles is complete insanity. I had an Acura TLS before, and with their known tranny issues I got 35k miles out of it before it went. Anyone else here in the same boat?

Problem at 31K

I have an 03 that took the dealer a week to decide the transmission needs to be replaced. I am still driving the loaner car after almost two weeks.

that sux. i have a feeling i'll be going through the same thing. only one bright side to it is that i'm leasing, so less miles on my car. but i'm not happy that the loaner i got doesnt even have a self-tinting mirror. nor does it have heated side-mirrors, so if it snows, its back to scraping the ice off. what kind of a loaner did you get?

Sorry to hear about your car. I have a 04 x as well that I'm taking in next week to have them look at the trans again. It seems to shift ok (albeit a bit 'late' sometimes) but my problem is a delay when shifting from R to D. It feels like drive engages but when I apply a little gas the car bucks forward (like a kick). I know there was a TSB for this in 03 but I don't think it applies to my 04. The dealer said no problem found the first time I brought it in.

My question is did your car exhibit any other transmission symptoms before it went south? I hope everything works out to your satisfaction, good luck.

Well, mine did some some really jerky off-a-stop starts in the last few month, but i attributed that to the awd being able to grip really well. can't say if those were signs of failure, but i would guess not. it seemed to drive fine. pretty crisp upshifts and downshifts. i did start using the manual gear shift in the last couple of month more so than before, but nothing that should have killed a tranny.

My '04x does this too and it drives me crazy. I hate waiting for it to engage drive a "second" time. Can you keep us up-to-date on what you find out?

Thanks,
Rich

reading all these messages makes me woder if i made a mistake buying an my 04 x instead of an acura 3.2 Tl. I have had one issue, (the check engine light) which resolved itself. It's crazy that I am even thinking about this considering my car is 2 months old and less than 2k miles.

You probably wouldn't have been any better off...Acura has had quite the bout w/ bad auto trannies w/ their '04s...

How about an MT swap into the G35x.... Joking aside, that would be quite a project with numeroous challenges.

Is the tranny in the X the same as in the FX35? I wonder if they have had any problems with that.

Very few tranny problems in the G if you check history. i believe the tranny in the X is the same as the G which is the same as the Q45. Very stout and capable. Now Honda, Acura is another story, ask me how I know.

It's a secret! Or you might check here http://www.transtec.com/selector_guide/Infinity.htm
Trans is made by Jatco. And they have 6 spds coming. http://www.jatco.co.jp/E_JATCO/SHOHIN/CVT_E.HTM

I know of at least one 350Z with more than 400 RWHP and AT that was doing fine last I know. There are other Z and G s floating around with higher hp and no problems. Over the years, I think I'm aware of 4 or five failures -but my senile memory maybe wrong.

Now Acura , that's another story - just ask 99 to 2004 owners. Or Accord owners, 2003 and early 2004 have already had a recall for potential trans problem. 2003 or earlier Acuras, in some cases are on 4 or more trannies! Now my wife just happens to own a 03 V6 Accord, oops.
