Mine looks nothing like that at all.

I have three hard pieces of foam. It spreads across the entire trunk.

I wanna say there's hard particle board covering it all but I need to check. Right now my trunk is full so I can't pull it up and look. My tools are also in a pouch tucked in the side of the trunk....not pm the spare.

I'll snap some pics if I remember.

 

So I guess this is the space saver spare setup. This is standard. Shoes how the tools sit on the board. no wood from what I can see, just foam noard and a foam cone on the tire.

My setup isn't like this with the optional full size spare...which is a fifth wheel like the ones on the car. Trying to find a pic on the net.

 

My 2005 X has a full size spare, and is covered with particle board. Tools are in a bag that sits in the wheel.

 

Plywood is ur friend. Was garbage cardboard before they went the foam way for the flooring

 

My 2006 x has a full size spare (which I had to use the other day) and has particle board under the carpet (Covering the spare). The tools sit in a bag floating around in the spare wheel compartment. I also have another layer of carpet or something under the main carpet. Anyone else have that?
