I'm about ready to swap on a wingless trunk lid and I was wondering how do you remove the trunk lid struts? They're of a socket design. My guess is you simply pry/pop them off the socket with a large screwdriver. There aren't any clips or anything I need to remove, right?

Take a close look at each end, there are black metal clips on the top rounded side of each end. Take a small flat head and get underneath each one and turn 1/4 to 1/2 turn to pop them up. From there you can just pull or tap them off the struts

Good luck with the trunk bolts, they strip out very easy. Id swap hinge and all if its an option.

Luckily the trunk lid I got came with the hinges. The Torx bolts on the lid are suppose to be in with a mere 5 ft/lbs, however, since they paint the trunk AFTER mounting the lid, the paint acts as additional torque on the bolt. I tried to remove one of the Torx bolts from the existing lid just to see how hard it would be and sure enough, it started to strip. Hopefully the new lid is nicely centered and won't need adjustment. I'm not sure how you'd exactlty correct that. I guess I'd try using a razor blade to cut the paint seem along the lower part of the Torx bolt and hope that does the trick.

Replace the torx bolts with something else if you wind up getting them out.

The torx bolts actually have a lil loctite on them. I use a impact driver to get em out. For some reason on coupes the passenger lower bolt always gets stuck

I used an easy out and the stripped bolt came right out.

Got those You always got to have the tools to get you out of trouble.
