rim fitment question

hey hows it going
appreciate you guys looking at the thread
just looking to get some new rims for my 06 g35x
i came across some 20 inch enkei's
they are 20x8.5 all the way around and have an offset of 40
would this be a good setup for a sedan? will it sit flush with the fender? also can anyone recommend a lowering option for the same set up.. ive been looking through "calling all x's with lowered suspension" but there are soo many different posts
any advice would be much appreciated
thanks very much

8.5 +40 wont be flush. With a 9.5 +40 you will be closer to being flush and that is about as far as you can go before needing to roll your fender (w/255 tire).
How low are you looking to drop and do you plan to roll your fenders?

It wont look bad, but you might find that after you drop the car that you will want some spacers to bring them a little more flush. Maybe 15mm front and rear.

What size of tire and how much of a drop are you going with? 20x10 + 40 will fit good.

I have Coupe 18's (18x8 +30) with 245 tires on them, and they're almost perfectly flush with the wheel well. Those 20's are 8.5, or ¼" wider per side, which is about 6mm. Combine that with the -10 offset difference, and you'll be about 4mm more tucked than I am. But, if you go with a 255 width tire, you'll gain back +5mm in width, which really means you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

As for a drop, there's more to springs than just height. The X has stiff rear springs (355), so you can't just put anything back there without affecting the ride and handling. And if you drop it too much, you'll need to replace the shocks or you'll be bouncing within a few months. Read the entire thread you mentioned. Yes, it's very long, but you'll learn quite a bit. It took me several sessions to get through it. If you don't want to roll your fenders, then you're looking at maybe a maximum of 1 inch drop in the back and 1½ in the front with the wheel setup you mentioned.

EDIT: As for looks? I don't like 20's on our cars. Too much wheel and not enough tire. The Coupe 19's are as far as I'd go.
