Should give you an idea:

Steps I took:
1. Plasti Dipped the wheels (3 coats)
2. Sprayed gloss black gloss paint over plasti dip (2 coats)
3. Sprayed clear coat over paint (1 coat)

Let me know what you think.

Prep work (used index cards.. went to Walmart and found these.. 100 pack for $0.50):

PD 1st coat:

PD 2nd coat:

PD 3rd coat:

Paint 1st coat:

I have a friend that's had a two C6 Z06s. Both cars had the rims plasti-dip. Both cars looked absolute killer and the rims flawless. The work is always in the prep.

How many coats did you do? It's hard to tell, but it looks like you just need more coats to smooth it out a bit. Thin multiple coats not a few thick coats.
Sanding wont affect the outcome with plastidip (unless the part is gouged and knicked) because its textured, it bonds well and hids minor flaws.

i would say 5 coats (i finished a can), i started off with just a little plasti dip but then i used more with each coat...

Nope. He just spend hours making the wheel surface completely clean and free of brake dust, grim, tar, and oil.

He coated them because the car is used for road course duty and the brake dust from the aftermarket brakes is pretty abrasive and corrosive.
