infiniti service!

ok so i took my car to an infiniti dealer today and had them give it an oil change and a multi point inspection...2004 g35x, 100,000

A few problems came up and i have some questions. please excuse my noobiness, im here to learn...

1. they said my front brakes were too low and i would need to get some soon. when they say brakes do they mean pads? calipers? rotors? the paper print out at the end stated that my front brakes were 3mm...

2. left valve cover leak. what is this and how do i fix it? prices?

3. rear sway bar link has some play. again lol what is this and is it neccesarry to replace? if so how much ?

4. new drive belts estimated at 185$.

my main question is whats most important to get fixed? and is the dealership being realistic or just trying to make money?

Drive belts for $185? Are they talking about your accessory belts (a/c, power steering, alternator)? Those cost me $30 for the top end at auto zone and took me 30 minutes to swap out.

3mm is how much brake pad is left. So yes you need new brake pads.

1. they said my front brakes were too low and i would need to get some soon. when they say brakes do they mean pads? calipers? rotors? the paper print out at the end stated that my front brakes were 3mm...3mm is how much pad you have left. If the rotors are OK replacement pads can be found for under $100 F/R and are super easy to replace.

2. left valve cover leak. what is this and how do i fix it? prices? Once again fairly easy DIY but very time consuming. You can buy another valve cover from R&D Development on here for $150.

3. rear sway bar link has some play. again lol what is this and is it neccesarry to replace? if so how much ? The rear endlinks are really cheap ~$35 I think and again, an easy DIY

4. new drive belts estimated at 185$. As mentioned replacement belts are lass than $40 (you'll need 2) and are literally a 30-45 minute DIY.

my main question is whats most important to get fixed? and is the dealership being realistic or just trying to make money?
I would work in this order:
1. Replace brakes
2. Replace drive belts
3. Replace endlinks
4. replace leaky valve cover

If you DIY you can get all 4 things fixed for well under $350 if you shop carefully. My guess is the dealer would quote you somewhere around $1300 parts and labor to fix the same issues. Do the math to see if the dealer's out to make money.

Of course the dealers out to make money it's a business =) Valve cover is a little tricky to do but everything else is pretty easy.

Check this out

Even though its money out of customers pocket after spending so much money on these valve covers we were thinking there has to be a way to cut the cost so here we are. R&D has come out the kit will come with both driver and passenger side valve cover gasket, six o-ring gasket and a simple instruction how to replace them. We will be also offering ready to install kit for $150.00 + $100 for the cores. we will ship you two valve covers(one of each driver and passenger side) with new valve cover gasket and o-rings installed. $100 core charge will be refunded as soon as you send in your covers to us. your warranty should and will cover leaking valve cover o-rings grommets. we do advise you to check for leak before your warranty is over.... the whole idea of us making these o-rings grommets were for those who have leaking o-rings grommets yet their warranty is already over. we do drill out the old o-ring grommets with hole saw size 1 7/8 inch. its is slightly bigger than the existing hole and slightly smaller than the o-ring....please pm us if you have any further questions....thank you
1.$60 for 6 o-rings
2.$90 to add OEM valve cover gaskets (both side)
3.$100 to add OEM pcv valve and seal
*above prices are shipped to lower 48 states.....

1- THIS IS A SIMPLE HOLE SAW (SIZE 1 7/8 INCH) THAT YOU CAN BUY FROM MOST HARDWARE STORE. WE GOT OURS FROM ACE HARDWARE AND IT WAS $7-11

2- THIS IS HOW YOUR VALVE COVER LOOKS WHEN YOU TAKE IT OFF OF YOUR ENGINE

NOTE PICTURE SHOWN MOST LEFT SPARK PLUG HOLE DRILLED.

3- WARNING “PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE BAFFLE PLATE” WARNING

4- POSITION THE HOLE-SAW CONCENTRIC TO SPARKPLUG HOLE AND DRILL BAFFLE PLATE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY.

5- YOU WILL ONLY NEED TO DRILL JUST ENOUGH TO DRILL THROUGH THE BAFFLE PLATE (WE CLEANED UP ALL THE DEBRIS TO SHOW YOU CLEAR PICTURE
DRILL ALL 6 POSITIONS AND CLEAN OFF DEBRIS WHEN DONE.

6- NOW YOU WILL BE ABLE TO POP OUT THE OLD O-RING GROMMET OUT OF THE VALVE COVER. PLEASE REPEAT 6 TIMES.

7- THIS IS WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE WITH THE O-RING GROMMET OUT

8- USE BLACK RTV SILICONE ON TOP SIDE OF THE NEW O-RING GROMMET (WE USED CLEAR ON OUR DEMO PICTURE SO YOU CAN SEE BETTER)

9- PLACE THE NEW O-RING GASKET IN TO THE HOLE. NOW YOU ARE READY TO RE-INSTALL YOUR VALVE COVER GASKET TO YOUR ENGINE.
