Its been done, but the design is up to you...know retail kits for the iPod mount, but there are AUx wiring kits.

I keep mine in my center console. Works well

I don't want to spend more than $100-$150 on it, and i hate the new ones where you can't control the music through the ipod but instead you must control it through the radio or steering wheel...any ideas on which one I should buy?

The PA15-NIS and PA15-INFI both let you use the iPod like normal when you go to "Direct Mode" (read the manual).

I removed my center armrest cigarette lighter and put the USB and 3.5mm jacks for my aftermarket radio in the socket. I just mounted it in position using hot glue, since it removes cleanly if I ever want to reverse the process.

whats the point of putting it into your center console if you cant see your iphone/ipod? isnt it better to put it somewhere where you can just put your phone in the cup holder or something and have it connected to something in the front like through the cigarette lighter or just somewhere on the side?

the cable could be long enough to take wherever in the car. I have always wanted to do one of those retracting cables for mine.

The center console has a little slot in the lid that lets you run wires out of it and into the cup holder if you need to see your iPod. I control my iPod through my Pioneer Z120BT, which is a lot easier, so the iPod rarely leaves the center console.

So even if you want it out of the center console sitting in the cup holders, it's best to run the wires through the center console, where they can be completely hidden when not needed.
