PLEASE HELP, major problems

i did a stupid thing when i was bored.

i have a g35x.

i took off the stock pleneum to see how hard it was to take off becasue i am thinking about doing that mod next (the kinetix one). after taking it off i put it back on without any problems. after i reconnected the throttle body before reconnecting the ztube i had my friend turn the car on a rev it so i can see the butterfly valve open and close. the car made some weired sounds, bogged out and then went dead. note: mass airflow sensor was disconnected. after the car died i reconnected the ztube and restarted the car.

when the car is at idle it sounds like its going to die and if i dont give it a little gas it does die. when i put it in drive it continues to boggle and when i floor it, it takes bout 5 seconds to begin to rev up and the when it does rev it it is noticibly slower. once i get the rpms up and it reaches 3rd gear it seems like its okay, but still sounds wrong and seems a little slower.

i reset the ecu becasue the check engine light, e-brake light, and slip light were all on. looked like christmas on my dashboard. i did it through the petal method. took me about 20 attempts but eventually got the check engine light to flash and now its not on any more. didn't help anything.

the car fumes also smell strong of gas and rotten eggs. thought it could be running too rich.

car sounds like **** now and i have no idea what i did.

someone that knows alot about cars, or has anyidea what it could be please help.

p.s. when i took the car on a main road to see if i could still drive it tomorrow to the shop, a wrx with an exhuast tried to race me and even with my broke *** car i still managed to beat him. should have killed him though. made me laugh casue i know the kid and hes a loser.

thanks, billy

I'm not an expert but to me it sounds like there is at least an air leak somewhere. When I installed my Crawford plenum I had to really make sure the bolts were tight but not to the point of stripping. Someone else experienced the loss of maintaining idle by not tightening the bolts down enough with the Crawford. Turns out some of the Crawfords can be slightly warped but that's another story. My $0.02.

Hope that helps! You might want to post this in the technical mod forum too and I see tnow that you have.

the car won't start with the MAF backwards.

Did you check to see if you caught the rubber lip of the oil fill tube under your plenum when you reinstalled it? Did you clock the bolts according to specs? Could be uneven.

you answer, we'll keep thinking

Did you by chance take out your spark plugs to look at them? When I did my compression check I accidently swapped two of the coils and had all kinds of issues like you are describing.

its at the dealer now. i made everyhing look back to stock the best i could, like someone said. whatever there doing is covered under warranty. when i get it back ill update it and let you guys know what the problem was.

the morning i tired to bring it to the dealer was the worse becasue it was like 30 degrees out. the car continually stalled even in the middle of the street and i didn't have any power steering. i decided to take the highway and it ended up being the best choice becasue once im at higher speeds the car runs fine.

must me an air leak like you all said.

i learned my lesson. the hard way.

thanks for replying

You f'd up your car because you don't know what the hell you are doing?....And you want the dealer to pay for it under warranty? The car is running crappy so you get on the highway? You sound like a jackass. I am going to call all the Infiniti dealers in/near Long Island and let them know what is going on. I get free long distance on my cell phone. That is if they can't figure out what the hell you did just by looking at it. BTW, sell your Infiniti and by a Kia.

If you can't afford the car, especially when you screw it up, get rid of it. BTW, what lesson did you learn.

Is your MAF sensor connected? I had a bad MAF connection on my former car and it did the same thing. Hope this helps.
