One more Service engine soon light thread

Hi Folks
I have the dreaded "service engine soon" light on. It is not flashing, but steady solid.
Here is some background information which may or may not be relevant
My recently replaced battery was draining, so I decided to isolate that leak by taking one fuse at a time and measuring voltage. I pretty much yanked every fuse, tested using voltmeter for drain and replaced the fuse. There really wasnt much wrong with any circuit, so bought a new battery again. I had some trouble in replacing the battery and didnt have much time to finish the job that day. Long story short, the car was without any battery for about 2-3 days.
I finally got the new battery in, all locked up, all fuses in. But when I started the car, I was greeted with the "service engine soon" light.
I am now confused what could have caused this?
1. Would not having any battery connection for 2-3 days cause this?
2. Did I damage anything while checking fuses?
Please advise.
P.S. I have tightened the gas cap already to no avail.

Bring it to an auto parts store (NAPA, Autozone, etc.) and ask them to scan the code for you. It'll tell you exactly what's causing the engine CPU to throw a code and then you can troubleshoot it from there.

Thanks for a prompt reply. I am thinking to take the car to nearby autozone and check the error code. But what baffles me is, would SES light come on if there is no battery for couple of days?
I mean nothing has changed apart from battery being removed in those 2-3 days as car was just sitting in the garage.

There's no point in guessing, it could be a number of things. Post up your error codes when you get them and we can really help then.

Got it checked at nearby AAMCO and the error code was P1065 (ECM Power Supply issue). The technician reset the code and told me to come back in case SES shows up again. I have driven for 5-10 miles now and no SES light yet. Looks like something was triggered when I was checking fuses.

By the way, in CA Autozone is not allowed to check codes apparently.
