Anyone elses paint failing?

I've got an 05 and the paint is fading in blotches around the roof and hood. clear coat is still intact, but the paint underneath looks horrible. I always thought the clear would fail first. Anyone else experience this?

My 03 has original paint besides the black trim not painted by the factory and I have had no failures or any bad spots appear at all.

Got any pics of the problem areas???

I have an 05 G35x and the paint is soft right out of the showroom. It's been a hassle detailing her especially since she's OB color.

I have an 03, didnt have any issues with paint, always had people ask me if it was recently painted. Key is taking care of ur paint. I did just get my car repainted & I have not had any issues with my new paint either.

Odd... The clearcoat is smooth and intact, but the paint underneath is turning lighter and looks blotchy. I guess I'll just have it repainted when it gets real bad.

I've only hit it a few times with a porter cable dual action and Menzerna SIP to remove swirls. I'm a huge fan of the Collinite waxes which last forever. It's garaged, but I do a lot of driving during the day.

Here's the thread on my durability experiment with collinite.

It helps if you wax the car once or twice a year. My '03's paint is almost perfect, just some key scratches. I wax the car at least once a year.

I do a lot of driving and the California sun beating on it all day long in 100F weather doesn't help. Just surprised to hear others don't have this issue.

My car was a DD for along time and has seen its fair share of Cali sun as well.

I actually got a few compliments on the car at the Sedan GTG as people thought it was a repaint until i told them it was original.

Hope it doesnt get any worse for you.

If you want something that will protect the paint try optimum opti-coat 2.0, its an acrylic sealant that is guaranteed to not fade (the test cars still bead water 4 years later).
However the paint fading underneath the clear coat is rather odd. If you have access to a paint thickness gauge do a couple reading around the area and post em up. But yeah, paint all comes down to care and SIP is a pretty strong compound. I'd maybe back off a little and try a less aggressive polish. And also, what color is you paint?

The paint on our cars sucks. Damn soft stuff that the Japanese use.

97k miles here and the paint/clear looks brand new. I drive almost 20K miles a year so this she's no garage queen. It's all about how it's been taken care of from day 1. If the paint's failing under the clear, your only option is to have the car repainted IMO.

My girl, polished/sealed twice a year and waxed no more than every 2 months:

Good grief I can't believe I posted that pic.

i dropped my car off yesterday for a full car paint job. Also removing the side moldings on the doors, for a more clean look. AND kurookie bumper! My paint was failing miserably, due to a poor paint job from previous owner, it was chipping which i then found out the previous paint job wasnt done right.
