Looking to buy 2003.5 - Several questions
I'm interested in purchasing a G35 this spring/summer. I have some questions about the 2003.5 G35.
• What size are the 5 spoke wheels
• What size are the 6 spoke wheels
• What type of tire life can I expect
• Will warranties transfer on a used vehicle-I've read about the brakes and want to know if my car would be covered to 60K for brake issues. Can I expect brake issues every 15K?
• Did they use a darker color on the lower sills in 2003.5? Did they make any changes to the lower sills in 2004?
• I like the 5 spoke wheels, but may want a G35 without the rear spoiler. Will this be difficult to find.
• I have read about the members rides section. Where is this located? I'm interested in checking out a car with the lower sills painted to match the body.
This forum has excellent information. What a great find for a potential buyer.

The 5 spoke are 17" wheels from the sport tuned susp. pkg
I believe the other wheel is either a 16" in 2003 and 17" in 2004? Not for sure
Should be easy to find a ton of 2003.5 with out spoiler, but I don't recall seeing any sport pkg sedans without a spoiler. It is hard to find a sport Pkg, rear aero, premium pkg sedan with low miles, no accidents-so on and so forth
The warranty will transfer to new owner. Not sure on any brake issues--other than the fact that after you wash your car, you can't go three houses down before your front wheels are covered in brake dust. I will look into some low dust aftermarket pads in the future.
Not sure if lower sills are darker on the 2003.5--but now that you mention it, I think they are
Hold out for one with sport susps/wheels, rear aero, and prem. pkg from a private owner--Ask the owner your list of questions (accidents/smoker etc)do your carfax check, go meet your service rep. at infiniti and get service records before you buy--owner may have to give you permission by email and show that to service rep. Have the owner take it to a carmax, if one is nearby, to check for paint work, frame damage, so on and so forth---their buyers are damn good. If not--get it inspected by someone; do your blue book value research and get a fair price for both of you. If you time the mileage and year correctly--you will get atleast 2yrs of bumper to bumper warranty if you find a 2yr old one with 30K mi or less. I found that dealers are clueless and ask way too much for G35 sedans that do not even have the premium pkg, and no detail cleaning, some damaged. You can save 2-3 grand or more buying private owner. Make sure you check for the doggie door on the trunk and don't buy those--bit out of date from the rear.
Tires--depends on how you drive them--if you buy sport tuned car from a young male driver that has 20-30K mi you may have to replace those goodyear eagles pretty soon--they are really fun to throw into some turns at moderate speed-like intersection turns, off ramps that you are familiar with.
Someone posted about Avon tech tires--they rate very well and you can get 4 tires with tax, full replacement road hazard, dismount/mount, lifetime rotate/rebalance for around $590 and $530 with a pro-rated road hazard at discount tire--they will order them from Louisiana and install them on your car--They are made by Cooper Tires. Goodyear OEM replacements are $960--$1000 drive out with tax, roadhaz. etc--Not worth it for that loud asymetric tire.
If you get a black sedan (mine is blk) or dark blue--the lower sills look better than on other colored sedans. I plan on putting the aero front bumper 1st--driving it 4-5 mo. and then doing side/rear sills. Just to help avoid sticker shock.
I have not seen the rides section since they recently re-did this website.
You will love the car. Good luck.

Harley,
I have a 2003.5 since 7 miles on the ticker. I have over 48000 now and it still runs like new. Actually better than new with my mods. Anyway, I have the non-Aero package (no spoiler) and the 6 spokes. The 6 spokes mine came with are 17" and came stock with the Goodyear RS-A 215/55R17. I just changed them out with the Avon Tech 550 A/S and they are a huge improvement over the RS-A's for about $50 less per tire. I did have to change the brakes and rotors out at 44000 miles. I messed up and didnt get into the dealer before 36000 warrantee since I was out of the country for 3 months and the GF was driving it (yeah, I know, big mistake) but she took beautiful care of it other than the brake warrantee miss.
Expect to replace stock brakes about every 3 years. Next time, I am going to the EBC sport rotors and "Greenstuff" pads. http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html
Cheaper than stock and should be WAY better. I have the EBC rotors and HH sintered pads on my BMW K1200 bike and they rock. You wont go wrong with a well-maintained, 1-owner G35. Best bang for the buck out there.

Ballisticus, I bought a 2003.5 g35 blk/tan sedan, prem/sport/rear aero package sedan last month with 22,000 miles. My question--I can take it in at 34 or 35Kmi and get all four pads and rotors resurfaced--per the warranty that expires at 36Kmi, or will they tell me that only pads of a certain mm thickness will be changed? They do not replace the rotors unless they are damaged, correct? I love these cars.
Oh, and can you tell me the arrangement you made to get your avon (is it avon like the makeup or uhhvaughn) tires? Did you get them sent to your home or what? Do they really live up to the ratings on tirerack.com? Handling, road noise, etc
Can you keep us posted on your experience with them. The previous owner of my car was corner happy, so I will need tires soon--even at low miles.
At the price of the avons--I will rotate/rebalance, keep airpressure correct--but I don't have to feel guilty about getting a bit corner happy at those prices. Thanks.

Thanks for all the info Texan1. I actually test drove a G35 at the local Carmax. They had a 2003.5 (no dogggie door trunk) with the 5 spokes and rear spoiler in emerald mist and tan leather. Actually, I could go either way on the rear spoiler, but I really like the 5 spokes. The car has 19K and they are currently asking 25,999 (down from 26,999 when I test drove it). I may buy from Carmax since the prices seem fairly reasonable and the piece of mind that comes with their inspection process. I'm waiting on my annual bonus from work and selling my Pathfinder so I'll have a nice down payment. With a kid on the way in April I need to keep the payments low since daycare will be taking some of my hard earned cash. Plus, there is nothing like buying a new car just as the warmer months hit. Can't wait to pop the sunroof and hit the twistys this summer.
Can I ask how much you are paying for your front aero bumper?

Texan,
As far as I know, they will replace the brakes and rotors if they are below the minimum spec. If you get it in there before 36K.
As far as the AVON's (pronounced A-vun), I only have a few days on them, but so far the only thing I have noticed that could be a negative is a very slightly softer steering feel. It probably has to do with the sipes in the tread for the A/S snow rating. Other than that, they are as good or better for traction than the RS-A's and definitely quieter. If you will never drive in snow, you might want to consider the Tech M500's. They are the sportier version of the 550, and rate very well too. Got mine delivered to work from Tirerack.com. Mounted and balanced for $59 from a local shop. So about $530 for 4 out the door.

Ballisticus, thanks for the info--Just wondering if having sport suspension would minimize the softer steering feel that you talked about?
Harley 01, As far as the aero front bumper--the parts rep. just gave me a ball park of about $800-$900 installed. Kind of pricey, but I need to paint the front bumper anyway--some bugs, scuffs, and what not that is much more used looking than the rest of the car. So that repaint would be around $500 to paint off the car--so for $300-$400 more I will get an updated (2005ish looking) bumper that comes pre-painted from factory. So I am glad my front bumper is a bit road rashed--so I can justify this upgrade a little easier.
Sounds good on the Carmax G35--good miles, good price. Keep us updated. Good luck with the new arrival.

The brake warranty does transfer, and they will replace pads under 3mm and rotors under 22 mm if memory serves. I just had mine done at 35,800 miles. I put a caliper to the pads and they were slightly over 3mm....so I was prepared to argue but they had no issues replacing them.
My car is for sale (unfortunately) so check the classified section it has some of the options you are looking for but it is a 2003.
