Converting My G35 To run on Liquid Propane

I have seen some vehicles that have done it and the $ money savings seems to be worth the trouble but what i am wondering is if doing this to our VQ motors would cause Performance losses such as HP or Torque the Pro's and Con's. My brother is pushing the subject on too me because he works for a Gas company in Oklahoma i understand that fuel economy would suffer but it seems to that an engine would run much cleaner and emissions could kiss my a$$ lol. If someone offered you the conversion kit for free would you take the plunge and say goodbye to Petrol and Hello to Propane?!?!?!?

Btw i am not saying i will be offering it for Free! the Government wants to subsidize the conversion kit. (which i don't agree with giving subsidies) but even if you pay out of pocket it is worth it and if u drive more than 12,000 miles anually like most of us do your savings from the cost of petrol pretty much pays for your conversion...

Where do you fill up? Just a regular Propane and Propane accessories store?
I probably wouldnt do this b/c the cars that run on propane get hit hard in performance.
But if you dont care for performance just doet.
Seem's like the money you save is more than reason for you.

Kiss any long trips goodbye after you convert to propane.

If it was a "sometime" car, maybe, but when you add road taxes to the price of propane, it's higher than gas.

November 10th average price of residential propane: $2.819

In my case, according to Texas code 162.305, I would pay $168 for a "Tax Sticker" for my road taxes.

Gas with a discount for cash here is about $3.00/gal with 38.4 cents of road taxes built in.

The advantages are that it burns VERY clean, almost NO wear on your engine, you don't need to change your oil NEAR as often because there is no soot.

Conversions work best with pickups because you can put a 50 gallon tank in the bed and with the 25 gallons in your tank, you have a HUGE "drive to empty".

Hummmmm..... if your so worried about gas and saving money why not get a prius or a Yaris. Very excellent miles per Gallon.

True that! I had a '95 Tercel before my G. That thing consistently got ~39mpg -- and that's with my lead foot.

Anyway, OP, it sounds like a fun project.

well maybe not Liquid Propane but Natural Gas? CNG! it can run in vehicles and when u are close to running out with the switch of a button even while driving switch back to petrol so you can run both! so long trips are still here to stay! im not really worried about performance figures in this discussion.

CNG has even LESS BTU per cubic foot than propane. Cars that run on it are pig slow.

And you are carrying a 2800psi BOMB in the trunk!

If your going to do it, make sure it's not 100% lpg. SO You can switch between normal gas and lpg.

Your going to also loose trunk space for the tank.

Also lpg fill ups are very few when compared to gas.

You need to calculate cost per mile. With the system and see what the ROI is.

I'm in an industry where the gvnmnt gave 1M towards a fleet of commercial vehicles (total cost of approx 2M)... as a tax payer I think it's bullsh!t!

Also got subsidized for over 300K worth of LNG trucks...

I can tell you that the problems associated with the new technology combined with the limited fueling stations make it a poor business decision. The politics behind the whole thing are even more of a deterrent (but that's more of a personal basis, although any forward thinking common sense citizen that researches the facts behind these subjects will normally agree its propaganda that is not in the best interest of common citizens).

Since you are asking about personal vehicle viability - I think you would regret it primarily because there will undoubtedly be technical problems and you will be forever frustrated about fueling.

are you asking people if its a worthwhile option - or trying to convince people it's a worthwhile option?

From your first post I thought the former was the case... but your subsequent posts (and post count) make me wonder if the latter is not what we are dealing with.
