So I had uninstalled my AT shifter **** and my center panel so that I can remove my radio/CD changer to be sent off for repairs. Upon installing back my panel and shifter, I cannot depress the gate (via shifter **** button) thus not allowing me to shift into the other gear. But if I take off the **** from the shifter I can manually push down the gate and shift into gears without a problem? (Yes I am depressing the brake pedal when I am attempting this) Please help. Thanks!

 

Had the same thing happen. Took everything back apart & the screws that hold the plastic gate were just slightly loose. Lined everything back up, tightened the screws & it worked like butter.

 

Thanks Tim. I actually found what was causing the issue. For my scenario it was the plastic boot that sits on the shift lever slipped off when I popped off the shift boot.
