Motor wont turn off/on

I have been lurking the site for a year or so, and now I have more than enough reason to make my first post. I wanted to post under the engine tech page, but for some reason every time I go to that page I get logged out. So here I am...

Now to the issue at hand, I pulled into my drive way today, shut my car off as usual ( or so I thought ) when I opend my door I noticed my motor was still running, so naturally I reach back in to shut it off, only to find my switch is already off....

after trying several ways to get it to shut off, I did the only thing I knew was going to work, I pulled the battery cable off the battery and cranked the motor. Sure enough that killed it!

But when I hooked the battery back up, and tried to start it again, it would not start. Its not making any unusual noises when I crank it, it just wont start up... My only idea is that maybe in the process of killing the motor, I threw off the timing?

Any Ideas?

I'm curious as well. Sounds like some kind of electrical connection issue but I really have no idea.

If it is an 03 sedan there is an electrical portion on the back of the ignition key cylinder that is replaceable. On 04 and up models you would have to replace the whole ignition switch assy. The replaceable electrical portion is about 67-75 dollars if i remember correctly and it is held on by 1 small screw. It will do crazy things when it starts going bad as well. In some cases you can jiggle the key and the audio and a/c will cut off making you think that it is the same old audio unit malfunction that most of us have experienced.

It's not a common problem but I have seen crazire things happen. It will drive you crazy if you don't what is causing it, but I have seen a bunch in the past but they were causing more audio unit concerns than anything. The fact that the car won't turn off while it is running and won't crank after it's off leads me to this area of the electrical portion of the ignition switch

So in the 04+ models did they change from being held by one screw to merging it into one piece or what? What's different between the years?

its actually an 06 coupe. As I said earlier this is not the page I intended to post on, its the only one I am able to post on for some reason... not my day I guess lol. I think there may be 2 problems here.... I think the iginition switch is bad, thus why it wouldnt shut off, and now when I hook the battery back up the dash lights come on even when the key is turned off. However Im not sure why it wont start, I have managed to look up some posts on other sites where people have had similar problems with the ignition but their vehicles still start up just fine.... One person sudgested that when cranking the motor with the battery disconnected it sends a high voltage current through out the vehicle, and it may have blown a fuse or relay some where. Either way I think I will have it towed to the stealership to get it looked at.

Gotcha man, sorry for the mix up. It does def.sound like an ignition switch problem though to start. Good luck and let me know what the dealer says.

I hooked up the battery this morning so I could put it in nuteral for the tow truck... noticed my dash lights didnt come on, so I thought wth I'll give it a shot... started right up!... felt bad for the tow guy... decided to visit the dealer anyway to see if they knew what was going on. 3 dealerships later I got an answer.... they called it "logic lock". basically an error in the computer. solution is 20 mins of disconnected battery. maybe this will help some one else down the road.

Usually if you pull the fuel pump fuse, it will stop the engine. Here's some tips: http://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-d...pump-fuse.html
