Anyone done it/have links or information? I'm contemplating it for the rears.

Let it begin

Soooo, am I getting the impression no one has done it? I know at first I'm going to get the 'wtf is this noob thinking', but really, it's not a bad idea, classier than Lambo doors or something like that, not over the top, and the squared off back end of the rear doors would actually acomodate it well visually and functionally.

Guess I'll put it on the list for things to measure/check when the weather is nice.

What money?

If I were to do this I'd probably just move the hinges and lock mechanisms front to rear, and reinforce as necessary.

Wouldn't cost more than $50-100 tops, probably under $20, would only cost me my time. I was just hoping someone may have paved the way for me to help with the procedure, in the event I decide to go this route.

You think you can just swap hinges front to rear and/or spend less than $100 to complete the job...ummmmmmm

Am I overlooking something?

FYI, I"ll likely be shaving the door handles in the future/with this mod so opening from the exterior doesn't have to be factored in at this time.

Other than the money involved in that and some misc. items for fabrication, etc, I can't see it costing more than that. But the reason for this thread is to gather information, so what do you think I should expect if you're saying it's going to cost more?

I"m not being a smarta$$, or jumping into something assuming it will be a walk in the park. Obviously it's going to require some work to get it done properly and maintain an OEM seal and function.

Because of my post count and you guys not knowing me, I'll put it out there that I'm a Diesel Mechanic with a decent amount of welding/fabrication behind me (on heavy duty stuff so not quite the same but a background none-the-less). I also have been known to step outside of the modding box before, but I urge you not to underestimate my stubborn commitment once I decide to do something.

I know the post count is low, I know it seems like a silly thread, but humour me please.

I love opinions, so please chime in with them, I was kind of hoping for pics to see what it would look like too, so hard to fully imagine. I actually contemplated Lambo doors for a day or so (my neighbour had a hinge set he was basically going to give me). But it would look ridiculous on the sedan/period. The suicide doors idea I think may actually look good.

Moving doors is a lot more work than modifying a grille. Don't forget about the wires in the doors also. I'm sure that would be a pain to change. Do you have a second car? I feel what you want to accomplish is just unrealistic.

You have that right. I still have the maxima so I could potentially do this in the winter, although not ideal. If after enough investigation I find it's not worthwhile, I just won't do it, simple as that. This is obviously very preliminary. I didn't post that to say "I can do this so obviously custom fabricating a suicide doorsetup will be cake" LOL.

Of course man, had it before I even bought the car.

Nice to see the flamethrowers starting to come out

I'm going to have a better look tomorrow. May be a wash if I have to buy different hinges.
