3,750, 7500 miles, etc servicing at dealers

Hi all,

Not that I am even close to the servicing miles. Only have about 250 miles on my 05. Oh, I refilled the gas for the first time. My mpg were 14.96. I was a bit shocked how much gas this car drains. But then again my first week, the car spent alot of time idling while I was checking it out. Anyway, just curious about the servicing. I don't drive much, my old car I only put around 5,000 miles a year so I am curious how this would affect my servicing. Do I need to wait till it really hits 3,750 miles ? or would it be 3,750 or 3 months and 7,500 or 6 months etc?

Thanks...

I'm sure that your dealer would prefer every 3 months

My history is I changed the oil at 1600 for the first time, and have generally changed the oil every 3000 miles (except once 3200). I've done it at a local Nissan dealership that is 1 block from work.

The one time it's been back to the Infiniti dealership is at the 7500 service when I had tires rotated, the inspection, check brakes, etc (but not the oil change since I had the 3200 oil change done a couple hundred miles earlier). This also gives the dealership a chance to do any secret service bulletin work.

FWIW, in 15 months I've gone only about 13000 miles, and have been basing it more on the miles than the time. If you only drive 5000 a year, you may still want to do the oil changes no longer than every 6 months, since moisture, etc, may still work it's way into the engine. But keep your receipts.

For that matter, my truck only gets a little over 4000 a year, and I take it in every 4-6 months for oil.

Your mileage will improve with time, but the ride is thirsty.

The time interval between oil changes is important too. That's why they say 3750 miles or 3 months.
Like you, I don't drive a lot in the 3 months so the time becomes a factor. I'll go 4 months instead of 3 if my miles are low, but no more that 4. You don't want acids to build up in the crankcase.
Cheap insurance.

I asked this question to the dealer and the service tech said 3750 or around 4 months. Don't worry about 3 months as the oils are better these days. BTW, this is with dino, if you have synthetic, they can pretty much go 6 months or 5k miles.

Ifyou look in the manual, you are only required to have service every 7500 miles to maintain warranty. If you do mostly highway driving, this should be ok. If you drive your car hard or have lots of city miles, you should probably choose the 3750 mile service plan.

Yes indeed, once I passed 10k, I have been getting 18-20 in the city, down around 18 now with the colder temps. Not one complaint about gas mileage here!

Hmm...I don't remember seeing that in the manual. Thanks.

Just curious...how much did the dealers charge for the 3,750 mile service since that will be my 1st one in a few months. Also, how long did you have to drop off the car?

Mine was just $45, that included a car wash and a loaner car. I also had a one or two things that needed to be corrected, so it was there about half the day.

That's nice. I want to get a loaner on my 1st oil change. I need to test the limit of my car but I rather do it on a loaner...haha.

I still opt for the 3,500 miles or close to three months. The cost is around $30 and I;m in and out within half an hour. I'm not frugal when it's comes to my car so I go the safe route.
