Leaking Oil

I went to two different mechanics and they both said
YES there is a leak and it is caused by cracked Valve Cover Gasket.
is it popular for vd35 engines to have this problem when its over 100k miles?
Anyways, they are both quoting me for 480 to 500 dollars....(300 labor 180-200 for parts.)
i was expecting to pay around 300 with everything but i guess not....
hmmmmm.... any place i can get the gasket for less?
Thanks

The gaskets are only $13-16 for each side. You need the entire valve covers to be replaced as well. It is not common for the valve cover gaskets to leak, however it is very common for the spark plug tube seals located in the valve cover to leak.

I am purchasing both side valve covers and gaskets for $395 from OC Infiniti (a vendor here on the forums) and installing them myself.

A reasonable price to fix your car would be around $600 if you're at a shop with the average $100/hr labor rate.
