you can not, but you can work the the body shop. Say reconditioned bumper is $500, and OEM is $800. you can see if they can get you a deal on the OEM from the dealership and pay the difference of $300. Or go aftermarket bumper for $500.

Only way they buy OEM parts if there is no other option or the CHEAPEST option.

If the airbags blew, the car will probably be totalled. Hope not though. Good luck

i guess given that it is a 2005 and the parts alone came up to over 6k...if you add paint and labour it would certainly be close to 8K...so def over 50% of the value of the car.

Yikes.... glad to hear your wife is okay though!
Super strange they wrote it off... especially if no air bags deployed. Hope you get fair value man!

Glad your wife is ok.

You most definitely can ask your insurance to use ONLY OEM parts. It is your right. If you don't ask for it (as most people usually don't), they will give you re-conditioned or aftermarket parts.

It is your right to ask, but not the insurer's responsibility to comply. All Insurers in Ontario are bound by the Ontario Automobile Policy 1 (https://www.belairdirect.com/english/pdf/oap1eng.pdf)

See the Statutory Conditions starting on Page 50. Page 53 reads:

"New of Aftermarket Parts: The Insurer may repair, rebuild or replace the property with new parts provided by the original equipment manufacturer or with non-original or rebuilt parts of like kind and quality to the property that was damaged or lost."

i am thinking of moving to a 4 cyl given the high price of gas. Esp the premium gas needed for the G35. But i havent decided yet.

^Good call. I drive a fair amount and I'm expecting that I'll be paying about over $100/week for gas...
