ART Pipes with otherwise stock exhaust?
ART Pipes with otherwise stock exhaust?
Has anyone tried this combination, I've tried researching to no avail. I've seen different combinations similar but not exactly. I am currently running the Megan Racing OE-RS cat back exhaust with the straight pipe Y. Today I had the ART pipes version 2.1 installed and it has horrible rasp from 2500-3000 RPM, it's simply not tolerable. Anyway I guess what I'm getting at here is if anyone has this setup is there any rasp and also how much volume increase over the stock setup did you notice? Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated, I've only had the exhaust on for a couple hours and already I can't stand it. I can't hear myself think and sounds like a tin can filled with rocks at the above RPM. Alright exhaust is back to stock aside from the ART pipes now, here is a quick video of the stock exhaust w/pipes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUN42...ature=youtu.be
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Did you trim down a bolt on the driver's side heat shield? That will definitely cause some buzzing if left untrimmed as it will hit the ART's when driving in the low RPM ranges.
Also, rasp is usually introduced when different piping sizes come into play from headers out to muffler. I had slight rasp when I had ARTs to HR y-pipe to MD VQ dual middy/muffler but it disappeared when I replaced the HR to a MD XYZ pipe. You want your exhaust to gradually expand as opposed to constrict from any one piece to another. At least that was the way it was explained to me in very simple terms.

That's kinda what I'm wanting to verify with someone who has the setup. Also on a side not before anyone chimes in, I have checked the bolts on the driver side. I think the problem may lay in the fact that the megan racing is 3" all the way through.
The motordyne y-back is 3a inches as well. I don't think that's your problem. I had a the full MD setup without a resonator and I had rasp. I put on the resonated module from the xyz pipe and rasp is gone. Maybe you could add a resonator and solve your problem.
Thanks for the advice, I know there is a resonator in the mid pipe, but how effective it is is still TBA. I'm looking into getting the Motordyne XYZ with resonator to solve this problem or return to stock back from the ART pipes. Just waiting on Motordyne to get back to me with the most feasible solution.

If yes, I recommend the resonated XYZ pipe. Its specifically for this kind of situation.

i currently have coupe middy hr y pipe and stock exhaust with the ART pipes and i have extremely minimul rasp at all..hate to say it but it may lay within megan..i think the only rasp i have is when i turn the car on...i rarely hear it as i drive..and come to think of it..i dont think i have..maybe on takeoff...but LOVE these pipes...hell of product by motordyne and well worth it
Sweet good luck..it all should go good...and I just dropped off lil one at school and rolled windows down and took a good listen...from low to mid range I heard no rasp at all...once my foot got heavy and i punched it I heard rasp at first then went away soon after...so hopefully all goes good for you...then I rolled the windows up cause its too damm cold
That was a major concern for me at first...how raspy it would be..so i was like damm..my girl is gonna start complaining..but not noticeable at all...she could tolerate it...as i can as well..its not bad at all...cops don't seem to mind it when they're next to me
