Possible Ac Compressor Dying?

So i have an 03 g35 sedan only has 68k on it. no accidents or damages but within the last 2 months. I have noticed when i drive my car with the Ac on my engine sounds funny. i know the car works a bit harder when its on but it sounds like my engine is not producing much power. It drives fine and still blows cold air out. But when im at accelerate from a stopping position i hear my engine sounding like its being over worked.

Had a friend check it out in his shop and he said the noise is coming from my Ac Compressor and it might go out soon.

Any of this sound plausible? check looking for some thoughts on it and how much would a new compressor cost.

Thanks everyone

Sounds like a reasonable explaination, could be a bad bearing inside the compressor. The only symptom is a noisy compressor, until it fails completly.

Common problem on the early G35 is the noise coming from the A/C compressors.

My noise started at about 30,000 miles and I am currently at 199,000 miles. The noise is still there, but the A/C still works just fine.. (noise maybe a little louder now.)

I concur with SI on the noisy compressor. I had mine replaced for being noisy around 80k miles. The new one has continued to be noisy, now at 127k miles.

In the Houston heat, it now overworks itself and will shut down. I have limped it by for 2 years like this rather than replace it.

Same here. 03 sedan with 88k miles. On mild days it is perfect, on warm days it makes noise, and on REALLY hot days (100+) it will not keep up. It usually makes a ton of noise, then pushes warm air. If I slam on the gas and get the RPMs up, it seems to give it the juice to get it back to cold air. Otherwise it will shut off.

I've seen used ones on slidegood for as little as $100. But it seems like such a common issue, it may not be worth it, as you may get another dud. My last car had a similar issue, and dealing with evacuating the refrigerant in order to change out one little part is annoying as well. I live in Chicago so it doesn't get hot often enough to warrant it anyway. Plus it just means I have an excuse to give my girlfriend for slamming the gas at green lights...

I have an 05 with 140k. Never had a problem with my compressor making noise. Not sure what year car you have, but maybe lol into an 05+ compressor.
