Question Spring Vs. Coilovers from experience

Hey guys, I am new to the G world and i was wondering what you guys think, springs or coilovers? Sorry I'm still a newb.
I want to know, those of you who have lowering springs, have your shocks went out ever since? Or did you buy shocks and struts when you got the springs? And if you did have to buy new shocks how much did you spend on everything? (lowering springs, and any replacement parts)

For those of you with coilovers I was wondering if they ever go out or if this has happened to you? Did you guys buy anything else when you got coilovers? I heard you need cambers?

I was thinking to buy shocks but people have been telling me that my shocks are going to go out and the money I spent on the springs and the new shocks would be pretty close to how much I would have spent on the coilovers. Therefor I should just start with coilovers in the first place.

I have a 2004 g35 sedan.

Reccomendations?
Thanks

First off what is your budget?

Tokico HP shocks are about $275-300 for all 4. Tokico D-spec shocks are like $500-600. Koni Yellow are around the same as the D-Specs.

Springs are anywhere from $100-250 for a set depending on what you get (or you could get Z springs for like $50)

Tein Basic coilovers are about the cheapest and are like $800 if i recall correctly.

You can spend 2000, 3000...8000 on coilovers if you want.

There are so many suspension options you need to start with a budget to figure out what you really want. Do some searching around and you will find a lot of info. This is not a new topic.

If you lower more than 1" you should get front upper control arms to keep camber in spec. rear you should get camber kit more than .75".

I don't have coilovers on my car - but I really like them on my friends' G35s. That in mind - its what you are willing to spend. You should consider upgrading your sway bars - lower tie braces and FSTB are nice additions as well.

Again, SEARCH is your friend. Lots of info already here.

I am willing to spend $1,500 and of course less is better.
if I buy springs, do i need to buy shocks? How are the shocks on our sedans? I am currently at 60xxx.

If i end up spending $800 on springs and shocks then I mind as well buy those tein coilovers right?

Most people just buy springs to start out...but you should consider coils. Search and read info. Whole section dedicated to this topic

Don't bother with springs. You'll end up getting rid of the springs later on for sure. Camber kits aren't cheap either so that'll take a chunk out of your budget too.

If you dony wanna adjust ride height and just want a set drop just get springs that give a nice drop. New springs 170+ tokiko shocks 250. Thats 420$ about half the price of the cheapest coils. Or if you hunt down used 350z shocks and struts you save even more

What are your goals? Are you doing it just for the looks or do you track your car? The answer isn't black or white either... this is where you have to do some more research.

I'm in no way bashing you, but if your asking the questions your asking, you will probably need someone else to install. So if your having someone else install them, you obviously need to take labor cost into consideration. Not to mention the alignment as well. That being said, coilovers are much friendlier to install as the springs are already "assembled."

I am going for looks. I want to drop my g so that my car is over some of the tire. I wasn't sure if springs could get me that low, but if I will save $500+ on springs over coils then I would settle with having my car right above my tires or 1 finger space away.
I have some friends that know how to install these and would help me get the job done.

1 finger space is a lot when it comes to ride height, but luckily in your case springs will do just that.

And I'm just gonna throw this out there....*cough* mducoilovers *cough*...

If your budget is $1500.00 you can get a nice set of coilovers and rear camber kit and alignment for around that. If you get springs then you might as well get struts and if you end up doing both your are just going to hate yourself for not getting coilovers and and being able to adjust your setup.

How many times would I need to adjust the height? I have a truck for the winter and I feel like the only time I would adjust it is when I first get them?

I think some coilovers like Teins would do nicely. On almost all the forums I'm on I've seen most members that got springs get coilovers later on simply because of the height adjustment. It's better to do things once than to pay for parts multiple times. If I were in your shoes I'd go that route.
