Time to replace rotors and pads

Need some help from the experts.
The time has come for me to replace the front rotors and pads. I am well beyond the warranty as I am coming up on 53K miles.

I want to get a set up that will provide me with as close to stock stopping distances as possible, while eliminating all the brake dust that the stock pads produce.

Ofcourse, as most of us, I too have a budget to keep in mind.

Any advice and experience you can give would be very much appreciated.

Hawk HPS pads are very good pads that dust considerably less than stock. Axxis Metal Masters and the such are also low dust.

I run the Hawk HP+ pads with my Stoptech's and they dust about as much as stock, the HPS pads dust about 1/2 the amount as the HP+ pads.

Performace Nissan ( www.performancenissanparts.com ) carries some packages with rotors and Hawk pads, as does Concept Z Performace ( www.conceptzperformance.com ).

How long since you last replaced the brakes?

I had to replace my pads and rotors at 46K during a scheduled oil service at the dealer. Since I was about to leave the country for 3 weeks the next day and leave the car with for the wife, I had no choice but to bend over and pay the dealer. If I would have known they were about shot, I would have bought the EBC GreenStuff/PowerSlot rotor combo.

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html

They make good stuff, and the rotors are only $95/ea. from Tirerack.com
Next time, thats what's going on there.

I forgot to mention that one other thing I will be looking for is long life, longer than stock anyways. The stock pads/rotors just seem to burn up so fast.

How long do the HPS pads/rotors typically last? Not sure if you have had them on long enough to go through a full set yet.

Ive heard good things about EBC greenstuff as far as low dust and comprable wear time.

There just seem to be so many options, hence the post to see who's using what.

Thank you so far for the info..........PLEASE keep it coming.

Anybody got anymore info? Other brands they've used that they are happy with the stopping as well as extended wear.

I want to come as close to stock as possible without having to change them out every few thousand miles.

Serious problem that new [but especially USED] buyers don't understand the relationship between cost and performance.........tire and brake component wear and cost.........tend to be 50%-100-150% higher than an average low performance car.

Luckily, changing pad material doesn't increase [loss of initial quick friction ramp up] the panic stop distance much more than 10-15 feet unless you chose some chain store brand. ABS tends to mask the extremes [cycles per stop is the only accurate method to compare pads......other than rigorous multiple testing on the same road and temperature.

Metal master tend to be noiser than oem sometimes to extremes depends on the vehicle. Others noise experience is help........guinea pigs.

Even as an independent [Lexus/Infiniti only shops] we won't install other than oem pads ----too much future liability for a lawsuit. I don't understand how the brake places stay in business using $8 pads lifetime pads........luckily for them 99.9% of the public is ignorant of brakes.

Half our brake work is fixing junko shops mistakes.

I appreciate your opinion but I dont know how this is suppose to help me determine what a good replacement to the OEM brakes would be.

If im reading your post correctly, are you saying that there is no such thing as a good replacement to an OEM pad/rotor?
