Dude, as someone else mentioned, just get a nice aftermarket full stainless cat back system for under $500 (Megan). There are others of course for a little more coin but still well under the amount that shop wants just for the midpipe. Or, just check craigstlist (search auto parts section for 'g35' check title and description) and watch for a coupe midpipe. Should be able to snag one for < $100.

So I took my 2004 G35x to two mechanic shops yesterday. Part #6 is full rusted and there is hole in one place. They quoted me $800 for the part and $1400 for #6 and muffler.

One guy called part #6 the resonator. Any ideas how much I can get this part for?

If you go to any muffler shop they can cut that (#6) section out and replace it. $150 tops with labor. Don't buy it at the dealer cause they're gonna bend u over..

So I finally found a used stock 2004 G35x Sedan muffler and a 2005 G35 RWD Sedan midpipe/resonator.

Does anybody know what other parts I need as everything underneath is rusted. I am guessing I need new gaskets, but do I need anything else to attach the midpipe to the bottom of the car?

Also, should I get stock gaskets and anybody know the part numbers I need?

I just changed out the midlife and all I needed was a bottle of rust cutter a 14mm long socket and a jack stand. And plan an afternoon to do it, to get through the rusty nuts.

And enjoy my midpipe!!!

The 2005 Sedan midpipe and 2004 muffler worked out great. The car is better than before and quieter. Thanks everyone for their help.
