My Maxima used to burn about 1.5 quarts every 3000 miles. I just made sure that when I did an oil change, I bought a 6th quart, and toted it around in my car. Any time the oil started reading a little low on the dipstick, I'd just top it off.
Check.

For the record, I change my oil around 8-9K. I run full synthetic black bottle Castol Edge with a Pureone oil filter. 70K + miles and no oil consumption issues.

My wife's "08 Acura TL has a oil change sensor and it will signal to change around 5-6K miles. I run Quaker State 5W-20 dino oil with a Pureone or Bosch oil filter.

Point is, any oil change sooner than 5K is a waste of $$$ (Maybe the VQ on dino at 4K) The guys at "bob is the oil guy" site will tell you this too.

Now my son's '08 VW GTI turbo is different. Black bottle Castro Edge will have burn off, so he will need to add oil. M1 will have no burn off. OCI will be add 5K because of the turbo.
