Mobile1 oil causing clacking

Just recently changed the oil and filter, old oil was chevron 10-30 - not synthetic and put a Napa gold filter and Mobile1 10-30 advanced synthetic. Noticed right after the chage that when you start it up cold it will clack the first couple of revolutions -- never had that with the previous oil and it supposidly doesn't work a well as the synthetic when cold.
Any thoughts?

^When I changed mine, I went with Castrol Synthetic and didn't hear any clacking, so it could just be Mobil1.

The clatter at start-up? That would more than likely be your timing sprockets making noise. My G does it from time to time, too. Especially in the colder weather.

My old Maxima did it every time it cold started.

This is common on the VQ35. The Maxima and Altima are notorious for it.

Mobil1 has become that bad? Everyone talks about how their synthetic is so fantastic. And, honestly, my Maxima (which burned oil) burned less Mobil1 than it did any other brand.

I use Valvoline in my G at any rate. No issues here.

You are wasting your money. If you do 3k oil changes you should be using dyno oil. You would be better off going at least 5k with the synthetic and buying better filters like Mobil 1, k&n, purolator pure 1, or wix.

Putting a Fram oil filter on your car is the equivalent of taping a piece of cardboard where your oil filter should be and hoping that it'll work.

Do you not have an Advance Auto near you? Every month, they run a special on full synthetic oil + a filter for around $30. Granted, it might not always be Mobil1. But it's synthetic. And it comes with a lot nicer filter than the pathetic excuse that Fram is.

Also, 5150 is right. When I put dino oil in my car, I run up to 3000 miles, sometimes 3500. Synthetic, I'll let my car go up to 5000.

Yea i will probably change to a different filter but if changing synthetic every 5k works for you then good for you. i'm sticking with 3k mi changes to help address minor oil consumption.

Anyone think that the 5-30 - shown as prefered in the Hanes manual - might get up in the parts a little quicker and prevent the clack? Also wondering if it'l cause any wear or damage over the years to have that happening.

How does doing 3k oil changes help with oil consumption? Just top it off once in awhile. you are wasting money by doing synthetic changes every 3k. There is no harm in it, other than wasting some money.

^im guessing hes doing it at 3k will reduce the worry of having to check the oil level frequently. if a person changes it that often itll be like not having oc at all cus the oil is being changed so frequently and the level should appear to never go low .

Whether you change oil at 3k intervals or 10k intervals, oil consumption amount will remain the same.

My Maxima used to burn about 1.5 quarts every 3000 miles. I just made sure that when I did an oil change, I bought a 6th quart, and toted it around in my car. Any time the oil started reading a little low on the dipstick, I'd just top it off.
