Anyone had this problem before?

Recently I am having starting problem. The car has 103K miles. My battery is 2 year old, starter is only one year old. Sometimes when I start the car, I get nothing but silence, car does not crank. Try a few times, the car start right up. Has anyone had this kind problem before and how did you had it repaired? Thank you in advance.

Did you check the battery terminals and make sure they're tight and free of any white powder?

I had trouble starting with my older car and found that the caked on residue had gone between the terminal and clamp. Just took them off and cleaned them up with a wire brush and the problem went away.

It could be the starter again. Did you buy a refurbished one? If so, take it to Autozone and have them check it out. It is free for a diagnosis but you have to take the starter out.

Do all the dash lights stay on when you try to crank? If they do, then it does sound like a starter issue. If they all go out when you try to crank, it is more likely to be battery terminals.

Could also be the ignition switch or starter relay. A lot of links in that chain!

The dash lights stay on in postion II when it's not cranking. I just get silence sometimes. It's sporatic and furstrating at times! Battery terminal is clean.

I am leaning more toward the ignition switch also.

Get yourself a voltmeter and start testing terminals. A digital voltmeter is pretty cheap.
