Difference between 2003/04 Sedan trunk?

I've been shopping for a 2003/04 G35 Sedan and I was wondering about a different trunk style I've been seeing.

I either see 1 or 2 above. I prefer 1 as it seems like the newer 05/06 style but I'm wondering what exactly it is as I've seen both on 2003 models.

not sure if the G35 is the same as the V35 skyline, but the bottom one looks like the early (01-02) boot, the top one looks like the 03-04 boot. 05-06 have round tail lights.

^^ Exactly correct. #2 is commonly referred to as the "doggy door". All the cool kids have them.

Taillights aren't round but the LEDs in them are! Pretty sure they are interchangable with 03-04 lights.

Thanks all. Will most likely get the doggy door version as it's a better deal.

Haven't even gotten the car yet and already thinking of doing trunk swap and 05/06 rear taillight swap.

What am I getting into...

Even cooler kids have skyline doggy doors.

I am not sure of this info, but this is what I've heard on here:

You will need to wire in a switch for the trunk, becaust the 2003.0 doesn't have one.

the 2003.5-2004 has a trunk release switch by the steering wheel.

the 2005-2006 has a almost-hidden button back by the trunk

But yours has only that latch, if you install another trunk you will need to figure out some kind of trunk release.

Don't forget the reverse lights. You'll want to either remove the red horizontal lines or go to 05/06 as well.

Then come back to us and we'll help you spend some more money.

Something else to keep in mind -- the early 03's also had an earlier ECU which is NOT tunable with most popular tuners (Cobb, Uprev, etc., do a little searching here), so if you're planning to get the mod-itis really bad, you should take that into consideration.

Here's a link to get you started:

Do you mean but release button that is on the rear bumper below the left tail light? You shouldn't need to worry about it unless you are replacing the rear bumper too.

so where is the hidden button on the 04? without the doggy door, I never see one when I see an 04 so I assume it only opens via the interior button or key fob?
