I currently drive a 2001 Bonneville SSEi but since I just paid it off, I have been looking at the G35 because of all the various options it has (280HP, AWD, Nav, etc). Unfortunately, the G35 doesn't have a HUD like my Bonneville. Yeah, I know it may sound a little petty but I don't want another car without a HUD. It allows me to keep my eyes on the road and see my exact speed. I love it! I really like the look of the G35 and I was wondering if anybody knew if Infiniti has any plans for adding a HUD to the 2006 G35 Sedan or has anybody added a HUD to their G35?
Sincerely,
Waiting as I save up for my down payment

I think last time Nissan used one of those things was in the early 90's on their Maxima. Trust me, its worth getting the car and looking a little farther down to see your speed limit and on the freeway cruise control is your friend
Good Luck

no thanks, I don't want all the other cars on the road to also see how fast I am driving. HUD is a gimmick, really how often do you look at your speedo?

HUD is not a gimmick. Other cars cannot see it. I thought HUD was great when I had it and wished my G came with it. One of the features I miss most.

You can get an aftermarket HUD from Defi.

I think it's a worthless option. All you have to do is lower your eyeballs another 45 degrees down and you'll see the speed on the dash, IMHO.

The problem with an aftermarket HUD is you have to use that square film on the windshield. Otherwise you get a double exposure since the glass is double-paned. That's why GM uses a Dupont wedged PVB so you don't need an added film stuck to your windshield. I think it looks pretty bad to have that square on the windshield. Originally Posted by xswl0931

And yes I'm lazy, I'd rather see the digital readout of my speedometer on my windshield instead of having to strain my neck downwards to figure out where the needle on my speedometer is currently pointing. That's luxury isn't it?

You realize how crazy your comment is? I suppose it would be too much to ask you to look over your shoulder when making a lane change.Originally Posted by JamesT

Yes you can see them in other cars at night. You know as well as I do that the Bonneville's target market is the geriactric set which has trouble seeing those itsy bitsy numbers on the speedo. HUD's are a gimmick. If they were really that good then they would be in every car.

Haha, not that I don't totally agree with you, but thats like saying if the VQ was that good it would be in every car...just a thought but some people like odd things in cars, like auto transmissions, ill just never understand.Originally Posted by shodog

I had a HUD on my previous GM vehicle and I DO NOT miss it one bit.
Yeah, Infiniti is going to put it on their 2006 line of vehicles because somebody who drives a pontiac might not want to buy an Infiniti.
If that is your priority, buy another GM product and check that option pkg that includes HUD. Is it really necessary to tell you what radio station your listening to, your signal light arrow, high beam....please. You obviously have not driven a G35, because if you had, you would not have posted this.
Half the time, you can't see it anyway because of the glare of the sun. And yes, very petty. Trivial as hell.

It's easy to insult a feature of a car if yours doesn't come with it....
The HUD is a great idea, there is just no demand for it yet. Lexus and BMW have already started to implement this feature on some of their vehicles. Give it some time and it should really take off....

It has been around for 8 years or so on GM vehicles, how much more time do you want. It does not surprise me that German makes are putting that crap on their cars--thats why BMW and other European cars are not that reliable b/c of all the nonessential features placed on the cars. http://commonsensewonder.com/mtarchives/006312.shtml
It is a gimmick, and I do not want it as a feature on my current or future cars, I use that thing called a speedometer to check my exact speed.

If the HUD is implemented properly, I can see how it can be very useful. If it's good enough for the Air Force, it's good enough for me :P

If you want a HUD so bad get a C6 Corvette. Way better than a Bonneville or a G!
