HID woes

2003 G-35 sedan
One low beam bulb burnt out, found that it not clipped, replaced bulb but would not light up so suspect shorted out. Fuses were good, low beam relay should be OK if other low beam still functions. Can a ballast go bad for just the low beam? Any other troubleshooting suggestions?

Your ballast is only on the low beam, not the high/fog. Try the bulb you know is good ( the one that works) on what you believe is the bad ballast. If it doesn't work, time for a new ballast. I am telling you to do this because it is always possible the new bulb is bad.

Exactly that. Try it, you should be able to find if it's a bulb or a ballast issue.

i had to replace my bulb and ballast. NAPA had bulbs in stock for 80.00, and got a ballast off club member for about 100.00. much cheaper than dealer.......so shop around for pricing.

Both bulbs new and old are good. Definitely the ballast, Nissan or Infiniti do not sell the ballast. In Canada used headlight from auto salvage $600, used ballast $300 so definitely shop around. If you know if one available let me know.

thanks all

I dont know about you guys and I dont know if you guys have the same issues that I have with the stock HID I feel like the stock HID are not as bright as the after market HID. I had some aftermarket HID on my civic before I bought my G35 and the after market HID seems so much brighter. Like people were flashing me their high beams thinking i had my high beams on but my HID only had low beam never high beam. So I just wanna know is this common or should I just go after Market HID??

The headlights you had on your civic probably weren't made for hid headlights. I put some hid bulbs on my old 300zx and they were really bright. I'm sure new bulbs would be brighter than old factory ones, but nine times out of ten Oem is far better quality than aftermarket and last longer, unless you pay lots and lots of $$$ then it usually is just as good as Oem.

Yes the civic headlights were not made for HID but I changed my stock head to after market HID and they were really bright. Then I changed my G35 headlights bulbs which I think were like 5k to 8k and it seems still so much dimmer. Then the after market HID.

When you put hid in a reflector or projector housing not designed for it you create glare. The hid light is thrown out in angles it would not be from a.proper housing. This is not necessarily brighter, but blinds oncoming drivers due to the light pattern.
