A silly comparison, but which one would you choose

Hello everyone,

I am in the market for a new G35. After checking the inventory I notice there are still a lot of 2004s, especially the ones with aero kit(I guess extra $3000 is a bit steep for people's taste). So it got me thinking, what if the following models are the exact SAME price which one would I choose(all with premium package):

1. 2005 G35
2. 2004 G35X
3. 2004 G35 with $3000 aero kit

Here is my thinking:

1. It has more new amenities such as intelligent key, mp3 player, and upgraded interior. It doesn't depreciate as much after purchase because it is a 2005 model.

2. Paid the same price but get an awd car. However it is less fuel efficient.

3. It will be perceived as most saving from MSRP if paid the same price. However, the future resale value may not be as good as 2004 G35X.

I know when it comes down to it, it is really personal preference. I do like to hear your opinion and which one would you preceive has the most "value."

I would get the 05 G35 if you get very little snow, on test drives I prefered th 05 over the 04, if I had a choice. If you live in the snow belt a must have would be the G35X.
We love our X and would get another.

No brainer-if you live in a snow belt get the G35X, if not get the 05. However if you really want to enjoy the car, get none of the above and get the G35 6MT model. You would have to pay me before I would choose to get the complete body aero pkg.

I agree, if all things are equal and you live someplace like Socal, get the 05 for the upgrades and the fact that it will hold more of its value because it's a year newer.

However, if you live anywhere that 'enjoys' inclement weather, than the AWD is a must (RWD in snow is dangerous, regardless of what people say).

But...in real life, the 04s are much cheaper than the 05s, so you need to factor in the $3500 rebate and better financing on the 04s.

Once that comes into play, the 04 is very attactive.

Regardless of which one you end up with, you'll go mad crazy over it....these are fantastic/very well rounded cars.

I was at the dealer for service today and got a good close look at the '05.

IMHO - '04 with Aero Kit...no question. It's a better looking car period....

If your looking for a 6MT then get an '05. If your after an AT then get an '04. Itwould be cheaper than an 05. don't confuse the aero kit with the aerodynamic body kit. The aero kit is common but the aerodynamic kit is not.

If you are in an area that AWD could come in handy yearly, get the G35X. Otherwise, get the 2005 unless you REALLY like the aero look (I don't).

The 05 Will Have More Of The Really Expensive Aerodynamic Body Package (that The 04 Offers For A Premium) For Free. Have You Seenem? They Have No Grey Bottom--nice--ill Probably Get Mine Painted To Body Match On My 03.5 Soon. The Extra Hp On The 6mt Along With Reinforced Block Head In My Opinion Offers A Better Performer Out The Box. But The Auto Is Probably Just As Sweet Any Year. That Interior Upgrade Is Nice Too..... Point:05!

Thanks for all the replies!

I am really surprised by the fact that most of you suggest 05 over possible savings on the 04.

HOO-MAN? I am not quite sure what do you mean by "The 05 Will Have More Of The Really Expensive Aerodynamic Body Package (that The 04 Offers For A Premium) For Free."

He means that the 05 comes with the new front-end and the painted side sills.

That's about 90% of the $3,000 Aerodynamic kit they sell with the 04s.

Even The Rear Under Body Is Color Matched...no More Grey... Basically Its The Aerodynamic Body Package From 04 Minus The Spoiler And Underbody Diffusers. Both Of Which I Am Quite Skeptical Of Any Performance Enhancements. Anyways-- Spoilerdepot.com Makes A Really Good Painted Replica Of The Factory Spoiler That They Pretty Much Guarantee. Mine Looks Authentic! For Under $200 After Shipping Its A Minor Expense--if You Like That Sort Of Look--i Do~! Anyways 05 Is More Sleek And Quality Looking Inside. Darn My 03.5!~j/k!

Thanks for the clarification. I now see the difference. Well, I was interested in the saving on 04 models, especially the awd. I was offered 31,600 and I bet the dealers are more eager to cut a deal on the 04 models. socketz, in your earlier post you mentioned $3500 rebate, do you mean $3500 saving from the msrp or that rebate was given to the dealers from manufacture. It is really hard to decide on instant saving now or looking at future saving on depreciation. I don't really need an awd, but thought it will be a nice feature to have and probably retain more value over the non-awd 04.
