i just bought my 2006 g35 sedan about a month ago. I just started to notice this air releasing sound when i first start the car and drive off. Im not to sure what it is or even what it could be from but basically when i start up the car and put it in Drive and take off its a short air releasing sound coming from the driver side of the engine. Any ideas of what it can be?? Thanks!

 

If it's a short whoosh of air then it's your intake. Nothing wrong with it

 

it could be but it happens only when i first start the car and drive off. Doesnt happen again until the next time i start the car. It doesnt sound like anything serious but i just want to know what it is. Ive never had an infiniti before so maybe this could be normal

yeah positive! woah! that sound would make me think something is wrong with the car haha. but its just a short air releasing sound. it honestly sounds like a small blow off valve going off.

 

Maybe you have a turbonator

 

Maybe its you farting.

 

Mines does the same thing. Bwt 5-10 mph on first start. Seems normal to this gen car.

 

Do you have a CAI or cone-type air filter installed?

My JWT Popcharger makes that sound when I give it a quick burst of throttle... it's normal.

 

I hear the same noise every time i drive my car off on a cold start...There was an old post about it,
I'll try to find it.

 

It's the ABS system doing a system check. It happens at about 10MPH on a cold start.

After listening to it plenty of times, turns out this is the noise. I watched this video and after hearing the sound again in my car, it sounds very similar. Im glad that there wasn't a problem and this is normal. Very weird sound but if its normal and i dont have to fix anything thats fine with me. Thanks for your post!

 

Let the vehicle warm up before taking off.

 

For me it happens when the vehicle shifts from 1st gear into the 2nd the very first time after a start up.

And it sounds more like a gear grinding sound that an air one (at least to me) .

I first thought it was transmission.

Some cars make a nasty sound when the ABS is actually stopping the tire from slipping.
This ones farts the first time to lets you know its working.
