When it rains for more than one day, the key fob functions stop working
Anyone have any ideas?
When it it rains longer than one day, the car stops responding to the key fob inputs. Nothing works, can't lock or unlock doors or open trunk.
It will stay this way for a few days when it's warm and longer when it's colder.
My guess something is getting wet, but the BCM is inside the car and I don't see any water there.
If anyone has any ideas let me know.
thanks

it's item 284B1 tech's concede it's a common problem, if there's a seal letting water through the hood, or you splash up under the wheel well, the BCM could get wet, guessing that's why after a few days it's dried out it resumes working.... not even sure replacing it would solve that, unless you figure out where the water is coming in.....

The BCM is the recevier on his model year, the antenna is integral, so it's pretty safe to say that the BCM is NOT getting wet.
The most obvious answer is probably the proper one: Change the battery in your remote, it's a cake-walk to change, and costs under $8 at any store, Wal-Mart, Radio-Shack, Most Drug-stores will even have them.

unfortunately, the obvious answer is not the proper one this time. batteries have been changed in the remotes and it still doesn't work. It will work again after a few days without any rain.
This never happens when it rains for an hour or two. IT only happens when it rains for at least 6-8 hours straight or longer.
My best guess is that water somewhere in the car is causing the problem.
I am not exactly sure the water has to get the BCM wet. With the way the CAN system works now it could be a drop of water on any wire that connects back to the BCM. Even a door switch or something like that. A little extra resistance somewhere and the BCM isn't getting the correct signal to open the door..............
Once we have a few nice days, it will start working again...
This isn't the first time this happened.
BTW this is in the 2003 Sedan.

You're saying that even when the car is dry on the exterior after rain out still won't work for a while?
If that's the case then i agree that water is physically getting in somewhere it shouldn't.
So you need to localize a garden house of steady water over different areas, make "quadrents" , work one quadrent for a while then let it sit, check remote function throughout the period you're running water over it, and waiting (the waiting is in case the water is channelling through some other area, it may take some time)
If it keeps working, then move to another quadrent, and so on until you find the quadrent that causes the issue, then dig into that area and find the water.
