05 G35 Sedan Cruise Disengages Itself

New Member, So I finally got a 05 G35 after looking for about a year! It has 75000 miles but to me thats pretty new. I have only had the car a few days and obviously it is used. On the way to work this morning I had the cruise control on at about 68 and it just dis-engages. I set it again, after a few more minutes it dis-engages again. No blinking lights, it just acts like I tapped the brakes or something. Looking for some direction on what I should check.

Thanks !

Are you 100% sure you didn't accidentally tap the brake pedal?

Yes very sure. In fact on the way home it did it again. I saw in a previous thread to insure the brake pedal was up by pulling up on it. I did this before hitting the set. After just a short time maybe a mile it will disengage and start coasting.

If its a 6MT, the clutch switch will disengage Cruise Control as well.

EDIT: On another vehicle I have, cruise would disengage because hitting a large enough bump would tap the brake switch because the pedal had too much play. Bled the brake system to solve that problem. I guess you could adjust the switch too.

Thanks for the response, no not a 6mt . I should have stated it was an automatic. The brakes feel hard so I don't beleive they need bled. Any information you can provide on where/how to adjust the switch would be appreciated. I will search as well. I did not realize this could be adjusted. I normally do all my own work but have been fortunate with no CC problems previously.

I have no experience adjusting the brake switch on my G35, but on my truck, the switch housing was threaded with a nut on each side for in/out adjustment.

Just got an 05 G35 sedan. Same problem! Cruise just turns itself off. I had the speed at about 69. Has happened multiple times now. First few I thought maybe I had done something. Nope. Help.

Does the "set" light go out when it disengages?

Hi Markc. Yes, the set light goes out when it "self-disconnects".

What are your wheel and tire sizes?

Does tire size make a difference to the cruise? Interesting! The Service Manuals for '05 sedan are here:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Sedan/2005_G35_Sedan/
Cruise Control details are in the "ec.pdf" book starting on page 29.
Hope that helps.

I believe the only thing that interrupts the cruise setting is the brake pedal switch on an auto. I'd look into that first.

For whatever it's worth, I have 215/55R17 tires. Thanks for the tech manuals. Could be helpful. Will fiddle w the brake switch a bit as I agree that looks like about the only thing. This one could be hard to figure out.

Could it also be something related to the "Cancel" button?
Either you press it thinking it's for something else, or it is doing it on its own somehow making the connection at times.

I don't think I have ever had mine disengage randomly, but I feel like I have had it somehow lose the memory of what I had set without ever turning it off. Id hit cancel to slow down for someone, then hit resume and it wouldn't speed back up. This is like a 2 or 3 times in almost 5 years thing.

I have had the ribbon cable in the steering wheel go bad on a Lincoln LS that caused the wheel controls to behave erratically when pushed, but never did they do something when not pushed. I fiddled w the brake switch which seems to be properly adjusted, ie, when touched very lightly, nothing happens. To deactivate the CC requires a tap that would be properly interpreted as intentional. Odd, but it has only happened about 5 times in 3 weeks and I use it multiple times a day.
