6MT Input Shaft Bearing Problem

Replaced my clutch with an ACT HDSS about a year ago. When the car is cold and the clutch pedal is pushed in, there is an ever increasing whinning/grinding noise. First thought the throw-out bearing was a lemon from the company so I purchased another one and installed it.

After reading through lots of forum and internet search, seems this could be the input shaft bearing going bad. Any recommendations? What procedure should be done? A whole rebuild or just an input shaft? What is a reasonable cost if taken to a shop?

Anyone done this job?

Thanks!

If it is an input shaft bearing, it would be noisy with the clutch out. if the car isn't moving, the input shaft should stop turning when the clutch is in.

Makes sense. Could it be the clutch disc? I replaced the clutch without replacing the flywheel. Perhaps the stock dual-mass flywheel isn't mating with the clutch disc for the first few minutes as it is warming up. As the use of the clutch creates friction/heat, then they might mate correctly. And this would explain why the whining/grinding noise goes away after 3-5 minutes of driving from a cold start. What do you think?

There are a lot of possibilities.. faulty/damaged pressure plate, faulty DMF. Could even be a faulty new throwout bearing that you installed.. none really explain why it comes good after a few mins though..
Either way, it is going to be next to impossible to diagnose over the internet.

The clutch disc will be stopped along with the transmission input shaft when the clutch is in, so I don't think that is going to be the issue.

Is the roller bearing the same thing as the input shaft bearing?
