Car overheats when heater is on

Hi Folks,

I have a 2003 G35 sedan which overheats when heater is on. Had a cracked radiator issue earlier. Replaced radiator, thermostat, water pump but the car continues to overheat especially when the heater is on. If you turn the heater off then gauge goes back to normal. This happens only when driving, when idle everything is fine. I'm really stumped..Can you please advise. Thanks.

How about bleeding the coolant line?

yes, did that. But didn't help. The repair guy said it could be either the heater core or the head gasket. I don't think he has any clue.

start with the simple things first. replace your rad cap. believe it or not these things go bad. go oem btw. then bleed the coolant system to get air out of your lines. if you have air pockets your car will overheat. it happened to me. if the mechanic is not familiar with Gs he wont know about the inherent problems with coolant system flush or drain and fill on these cars. It's might be an air pocket in your heater-core. Try substantially elevating only the front of your car and bleeding the coolant again with the heater on high and blower all the way up. Rev it up a few times while doing it this try to use the water pump to help force it out.

Good luck

I had same issue with my 03 sedan. First thing I replaced coolant and radiator cap, (it didn't help) next I replaced clutch fan (didn't help) last thing I replaced radiator and houses and I spent 3 hours bleeding the system, for some cars bleeding process has to be done everyday for the next week after you replace coolant. My problem solved and my engine temperature stays cool and rises no more than 182ºF on even hot days. But I gotta say about my new fan clutch, when I start my car my fan clutch is at high speed even if my engine completely cold, it goes to normal speed when engine warms up a little. Any idea why my fan clutch kicks in to a high speed even when engine temperature bellow 100ºF???
