DRL bulb
Yup. LED's work poorly in a reflector unless there is a lot of them to distribute the light in a similar fashion as the halogen bulbs did.
I used to have LED reverse lights...but with tinted windows I couldn't see crap.

Its less about the amount and more about the power. I have preordered some LED turn signal bulbs w/ 3 white LEDs and 3 amber LEDs and they will absolutely blow away any other plug and play bulb. White produces 600 lumens, and amber produces 430 lumens. As a point of reference, a normal incandesent low beam bulb usually produces around 1000 lumens. HIDs are around 3000 IIRC
I dont think there is anything in a 168 form factor that will fill up the reflector well enough though. The stock incandesent bulb doesnt even do a good job of it

#921 bulbs will demolish the reflector with light and will fit in there.
BUT they are incandecent, and run higher wattage, they might melt the harness if run too long,
The Stock bulbs are #194, which suck in any application and are prone to burning up quickly. there are 'good' quality #194's you can buy for gauges that will last longer and are brighter, but they would still suck in that application.
I had some LED's in there that did a pretty good job lighting it up, but nothing drastic.
