Question Tiptronic 2004

ok here it goes.
Me and my gf both have same cars 2004 sedan at.
But the difference is her auto tranny is different,my MM mode has the option of the highest gear,so basicly if it says 3 that mean it will not shift past 3,but in her can you can actually be in the gear you want.production dates are 2003 and are off only by a 2 month.
Is the the ECU that is different or something else, any info would help.
Thank you.

There was an evil reflash for early a/t, but not sure if that is the issue. Search it and see if that will resolve your issue.

On my 04.5, I can select what gear what I want to be in, but it's still electronically limited. For example you can't put it in 5th if you're only going 20 mph. I'm not exactly sure what your issue is, so if it says 3 for 3rd gear on your dash, you are unable to upshift? Accelerate to 25 mph to shift from 3 to 4, that's the speed the ECU requires

Mine does the same thing. Not that big of an issue. Just note how fast you are going and what gear you should be in. Downshift carefully and you shouldn't see it as a problem. Also if you let your foot go slowly down on the accelerator and let the RPMs climb by them selves then you shouldn't mix up your manual mode.

well the reason i was asking is,if i am on the highway or in the city in mm mode and i want to pass someone or just accelerate,i didnt want it to downshift.
2nd i kind of want to hear my exhaust note in the low rpm a little bit more
and 3 will ECU swap fix this issue?

on the 2004.0 you choose the highest gear in MM mode, while on the 2004.5 you choose the actual gear (within the limits set by the ECU (or trans computer))
